Overview
Porsche Holding Salzburg is Europe's largest and most successful automotive trading company. Founded in 1947 by Ferdinand Porsche's children, Louise Piëch and Ferry Porsche, it is today part of the Volkswagen Group and operates in 29 countries across three continents. Its four business areas—wholesale, retail, financial services, and IT systems—cover all aspects of automotive distribution. As a wholesaler (importer), it distributes Volkswagen Group brands in Austria, much of Central and Eastern Europe, Colombia, Chile, Malaysia, and Singapore. In automotive retail, it operates its own sales, service, and spare parts locations through Porsche Inter Auto in Austria and numerous other European countries.
History
Porsche Holding Salzburg was founded in 1947 by Louise Piëch and Ferry Porsche, the children of Ferdinand Porsche, as a family business from the legacy of the designer Ferdinand Porsche. In Salzburg, Louise Piëch laid the foundation for rapid development with the import of Volkswagen vehicles. After all family members withdrew from operational functions, Porsche Holding Salzburg was formed in 1974. Under the new umbrella, the company set important structural course and, in the early 1990s, used the opportunity of large-scale internationalization. Since 2011, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, it has continued its international growth course to become one of the largest and most successful European automotive trading houses in the world. With its strategy 'evolve 2030', it is helping to shape the transformation of the automotive industry.
