Overview
Carnival Glory is a Conquest-class cruise ship operated by Carnival Cruise Line, a brand within Carnival Corporation & plc. The ship is the second vessel in the five-ship Conquest class and was built by Fincantieri at its Monfalcone shipyard in northern Italy. It was floated out on July 19, 2003, and was christened by American physicist and astronaut Sally Ride. The vessel entered Carnival's fleet as a large resort-style ship designed to combine multiple dining, entertainment, recreation, and accommodation categories within one platform. The ship's onboard facilities include two swimming pools, six whirlpools, a 214-foot water slide, and a 13,300-square-foot spa. Its accommodation and public areas support Carnival's mass-market cruise model, which emphasizes family travel, casual dining, live entertainment, organized activities, and bundled vacation itineraries. Carnival Glory is therefore best understood not as a standalone consumer brand with independently sold products, but as a named cruise-ship product and vacation platform within Carnival Cruise Line's fleet. During its career, Carnival Glory has operated from a number of North American embarkation ports. Its deployments have included Miami, New York City, New Orleans, Norfolk, and Port Canaveral. The ship conducted Canadian-bound summer cruises from New York after beginning that deployment in 2010, and it has also offered eastern and western Caribbean itineraries from Miami. In January 2018, it became the first Carnival ship to return to St. Thomas after the major hurricanes of September 2017, reflecting the gradual restoration of Caribbean cruise tourism after the storms. Carnival Glory has received several rounds of maintenance and refurbishment. It underwent a drydock refurbishment in November 2012. Further work in February and March 2017 added a WaterWorks feature and renovated other onboard areas. A service period in Cádiz, Spain, in early 2024 included a two-week drydock and work reported to include an expanded and redesigned casino, new carpeting, replacement mattresses, and bedside lamps with USB connections in cabins. Carnival announced in March 2023 that the ship would operate a 14-night transatlantic voyage from Barcelona to Port Canaveral in April and May 2024. From May 2024, Carnival Glory was assigned to short three- and four-night Bahamas cruises from Port Canaveral, replacing Carnival Liberty in that role. As of August 2025, Port Canaveral remained the ship's reported home port. Its history also includes several passenger and crew overboard incidents and a December 2019 collision with Carnival Legend in Cozumel. These events form part of the ship's operational record but do not change its active status.
History
Carnival Glory was constructed by Fincantieri at Monfalcone in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy, as the second ship of Carnival Cruise Line's Conquest class. The vessel was floated out on July 19, 2003, and was christened by Sally Ride, the American physicist and astronaut. Its design followed Carnival's large-ship resort model, providing accommodation, restaurants, entertainment venues, pools, water-based recreation, and wellness facilities in a single ship. Among its specifically reported features are two pools, six whirlpools, a 214-foot water slide, and a 13,300-square-foot spa. Carnival Glory's deployment history has followed the changing patterns of Carnival's North American and Caribbean network. In November 2009, the ship was redeployed to Miami. Beginning in June 2010, it operated summer cruises from New York City, including voyages toward Canada. It has also sailed from Norfolk, Virginia, and from New Orleans, while Miami-based deployments included eastern and western Caribbean itineraries. In January 2018, Carnival Glory returned to St. Thomas, making it the first Carnival ship to call there after the hurricanes that struck the Caribbean in September 2017. The ship's physical product has been updated through repeated maintenance cycles. A drydock refurbishment took place in November 2012. In February and March 2017, the vessel received a WaterWorks feature and renovations to other areas. Carnival later scheduled the ship for work in Cádiz, Spain, between January and March 2024. The Cádiz period included a two-week drydock and reported upgrades to the casino and cabin fittings, including carpeting, mattresses, and USB-equipped bedside lamps. Carnival's network planning also produced a major itinerary change in 2024. Announced in March 2023, a 14-night transatlantic cruise carried Carnival Glory from Barcelona to Port Canaveral between April 18 and May 2, 2024. From May onward, the ship took up three- and four-night Bahamas sailings from Port Canaveral, replacing Carnival Liberty in that market. As of August 2025, Port Canaveral was reported as Carnival Glory's operating home port. The ship has experienced a number of safety-related incidents during service. These include reported passenger falls or disappearances overboard in 2007 and 2015, a fatal fall involving an eight-year-old passenger in the ship's atrium during disembarkation in 2017, and the rescue in 2018 of a crew member who had gone overboard from Norwegian Getaway. On December 20, 2019, Carnival Glory collided with Carnival Legend while maneuvering in Cozumel. Six passengers suffered minor injuries, and an affected restaurant was closed for repairs, although the vessels' itineraries continued. Despite these incidents, Carnival Glory remains an active Carnival Cruise Line ship.
