Universal Music Türkiye

Universal Music Türkiye is the Turkish office of Universal Music, described on its company page as having operated for 40 years to support creativity and productivity. The company was founded in 1984 as Kent Elektronik, began foreign-music activities in 1986 through a licensing agreement with EMI Music, and became a wholly foreign-owned company after EMI Music acquired the remaining shares in January 2003. Following Universal Music Group's worldwide acquisition of EMI Music in 2012, EMI-Kent Elektronik became a UMG affiliate and began to be known as Universal Müzik Türkiye. It represents all of UMG's brands, artists and business lines in Turkey and holds a broad domestic catalogue, representing both UMG's international artists and Turkish artists such as Sezen Aksu, İlhan İrem and Erol Evgin, as well as Lvbel C5, Murda, UZI, Jabbar, Deeperise, aisu, Anıl Durmuş, Can Kazaz, Emre Nalbantoğlu, Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu and Melis Kar. It also hosts new talent through its Yes U! brand and aims to introduce subculture genres in Turkey and create space for Turkish artists worldwide through the Phonk Pharma TR, Pharma TR and NotYourUsualLoFi brands.

The company was founded in 1984 as Kent Elektronik. In 1986 it made a licensing agreement with EMI Music and began operating in the field of foreign music. In 1996 EMI Music purchased the majority shares of the company, which was renamed EMI-Kent Elektronik. In January 2003 EMI Music purchased the remaining shares, making the company 100% foreign-owned. In 2012, with Universal Music Group's (UMG) worldwide acquisition of EMI Music, EMI-Kent Elektronik became a UMG affiliate and began to be known as Universal Müzik Türkiye. As a UMG affiliate, Universal Müzik Türkiye represents all of Universal Music Group's brands, artists and business lines in Turkey.
