Somat

Somat is a dishwashing detergent brand that Henkel introduced in Germany in 1962 as the first cleaner developed specifically for dishwashing machines. The brand's own history page records a series of product innovations: Somat Tabs in 1989, Somat 2 in 1 in 1999, Somat Perfect Gel in 2008, Somat Multi Gel Tabs and Somat Gold in 2014, and phosphate-free cleaners from April 2016. Its current product line includes Somat Excellence Premium 5in1 Caps.

According to Somat's official history page, 1962 marked the beginning of a new era: Henkel introduced Somat in Germany as the first cleaner developed specifically for dishwashing machines. At that time, washing dishes was mostly an arduous job, electrical household aids were not widespread, and a dishwasher was considered an unaffordable luxury. In 1989, Somat brought dishwasher detergent in tablet form to market as the first brand to do so; the then-revolutionary form quickly became the market standard. In 1999, Somat 2 in 1 was the world's first cleaner with a second phase containing an integrated rinse-aid core, eliminating the need to add rinse aid. In 2008, Somat introduced Somat Perfect Gel, a dishwasher gel that dissolves quickly and cleans immediately, actively and powerfully. In 2014, Somat launched Somat Multi Gel Tabs, described as innovative pre-dosed tabs, and Somat Gold, described as the strongest Somat ever, with extra power against starch. In 2016, Somat stated that since April it had omitted phosphates from all its cleaners, offering phosphate-free cleaners with the usual Somat performance.
