The company's own timeline records that in 1853 Michael Spedding baked his very first batch of brandy snaps, selling them to shows, shops and traders from his Batley bakery; in 1882 the first Burton's Biscuits were baked by George Burton; in 1895 Paterson's Brand was founded by J Paterson in the Royal Burgh of Rutherglen; in 1897 Fred Ellis Fox (Michael Spedding's son-in-law) took over the business, renaming it F E Fox & Co, which is where Fox's Biscuits gets its name; in 1916 the Thomas Fudge's brand was created; in 1922 Bee Bee Biscuits Ltd opened a biscuit bakery in Blackpool, the home of Maryland cookies; in 1927 Fox's current Batley bakery was created; and in 1935 Burton's Gold Medal Biscuits was founded by the grandson of George Burton.
