Overview
Scitex Vision was an Israeli industrial printing-equipment company focused on large-format and very-large-format digital printers for paper and specialty substrates. The business developed within the Scitex technology group and became associated with the expansion of industrial inkjet printing beyond conventional commercial-print applications. Its equipment served applications requiring large printed areas, durable output, and production on a range of flexible or specialty materials. The company was incorporated as Idanit Technologies Ltd. on 19 May 1994. It was subsequently acquired by Scitex and renamed Scitex Wide Format Printing Ltd. in 1998. During the same year, its capabilities were broadened through the purchase of the super-wide-format product line of companies associated with the Matan group. On 21 August 2000, the business adopted the Scitex Vision name, aligning it more directly with the Scitex brand and its position in industrial digital imaging. Scitex Vision expanded its technology base in 2003 by merging with Aprion Digital Ltd. Aprion had been established in 1999 as a spin-off from Scitex's Advanced Printing Products Division and had developed drop-on-demand inkjet technologies and related products. The combination brought together wide-format printing equipment, inkjet development, and industrial production expertise, and was described as positioning the merged company as a significant participant in industrial digital printing. The Scitex Vision business did not remain an independent brand. Hewlett-Packard acquired the company's operations and the rights to the Scitex name in 2005. HP subsequently used Scitex as the name for a wide-format industrial-printing product line, commonly presented as HP Scitex. The transfer also affected the former Scitex corporate identity: in January 2006, Scitex Corporation changed its name to Scailex Corporation after the Scitex name rights moved to Hewlett-Packard. In 2008, HP completed the acquisition of NUR Macroprinters, another Israeli manufacturer of super-wide-format industrial printers, and integrated that business into its HP Scitex activities. Scitex Vision therefore represents a predecessor business and brand platform for HP's industrial wide-format printing portfolio rather than an active standalone company.
History
Scitex Vision originated as Idanit Technologies Ltd., incorporated on 19 May 1994 in Israel. The company was established to develop and produce digital printing equipment, with a particular emphasis on applications requiring wider print dimensions than conventional office or commercial presses. Its later development placed it within the Scitex technology group, a company associated with digital imaging and graphic-arts systems. Scitex acquired the business in 1998. During that period the company changed its name to Scitex Wide Format Printing Ltd. and broadened its product capabilities by acquiring the super-wide-format product line of companies belonging to the Matan group. This expanded the business from wide-format equipment toward industrial systems capable of producing very large printed output on paper and other specialized materials. On 21 August 2000, the company adopted the Scitex Vision name. The new identity connected the business to Scitex while emphasizing its role in digital visual-production technologies. Its products addressed industrial and professional users that needed large-scale signage, display, decorative, or other specialty printing applications, although the available reference material does not provide a complete product catalog or detailed customer breakdown. A major technological and organizational step occurred in 2003, when Scitex Vision merged with Aprion Digital Ltd. Aprion had been formed in 1999 as a spin-off from Scitex's Advanced Printing Products Division. It developed drop-on-demand inkjet technologies and products, complementing Scitex Vision's wide-format equipment activities. The merger combined printing-system manufacturing with inkjet research and development and was presented as strengthening the company's position in industrial digital printing. Scitex Vision's independent identity ended after Hewlett-Packard acquired its operations and the rights to the Scitex name in 2005. HP used the name in the HP Scitex line of wide-format industrial printers. The transfer had consequences for the former parent group: in January 2006, Scitex Corporation changed its name to Scailex Corporation because the Scitex brand rights had moved to Hewlett-Packard. HP continued consolidating its industrial wide-format capabilities. On 29 February 2008, it completed the acquisition of NUR Macroprinters, another Israeli producer of super-wide-format industrial printers. NUR's business was integrated into the HP Scitex brand structure. As a result, Scitex Vision is best understood today as a defunct Israeli printing-technology company and an important predecessor to part of HP's industrial wide-format printing business, rather than as an active standalone brand.
