Overview
Samsung Aerospace was a South Korean aerospace and defense manufacturer associated with Samsung Group. The business began as Samsung Precision on 1 August 1977, initially producing a broader range of precision-manufacturing goods, including cameras and lead frames. Its first factory was constructed in Changwon, in South Gyeongsang Province, on a site of approximately 100,000 square metres. As aerospace manufacturing became increasingly important to the company, it adopted the Samsung Aerospace Industries name in February 1987. The company’s activities covered both manufacturing and industrial support for aircraft and propulsion systems. It assembled and repaired several military and commercial jet engines, including the General Electric J85, CFM56, LM2500, and F404. In cooperation with Pratt & Whitney, it also participated in production of the PW4000 engine. History
Samsung Aerospace originated as Samsung Precision, founded on 1 August 1977 with initial capital reported in contemporary descriptions as one billion South Korean won. It constructed its first major facility in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, on a site of roughly 100,000 square metres. The early company was not exclusively an aerospace producer: it manufactured precision products such as cameras and lead frames. Over time, however, aerospace manufacturing became a central strategic activity, leading to the adoption of the Samsung Aerospace Industries name in February 1987.
