Overview
Hekatron is a family of companies that develop, produce, and sell systems for fire safety. It was founded in 1963 as Pyrotector Europe GmbH by Hildegard Döring. Today, the Hekatron companies consist of Hekatron Brandschutz, Hekatron Manufacturing, and Hekatron Service Center, which are part of the family-run Securitas Gruppe Schweiz, based in Sulzburg, southern Baden.
History
The history of Hekatron began in 1963 with the founding of an American-German joint venture, Pyrotector Europe GmbH, by Hildegard Döring. The name Hekatron came into use sixteen years later. At that time, common smoke detectors worked on the ionization principle and contained harmful radioactive components. Döring and her team of eight employees developed an optical smoke detector using the scattered light principle, which offered safety advantages and replaced ionization detectors. In 2023, the Hekatron family celebrated its 60th anniversary with over 1,000 employees.
