Groth Vineyards & Winery is a Napa Valley winery located in Oakville, California. According to its "Our Story" page, the vineyard began from a family dream; Dennis and Judy Groth surveyed an old farm with dilapidated dairy barns and frost-bitten Napa Gamay vines bordering Oakville Cross Road, and in 1982 purchased a second parcel of 44 acres in what is now the Oak Knoll District south of Yountville, suitable for Merlot and later Chardonnay.

According to the winery's "Our Story" page, the vineyard was born out of a family dream, the friendship of neighbors, and a huge leap of faith. Dennis and Judy Groth surveyed an old farm with dilapidated dairy barns sagging behind rows of frost-bitten Napa Gamay vines bordering Oakville Cross Road. In 1982, they purchased a second parcel of 44 acres in what is now the Oak Knoll District just south of Yountville, which was the perfect spot for growing Merlot and, as they later learned, Chardonnay. After a year of selling their fruit to neighbors, they decided to make a bit of Cabernet of their own, and asked Nils Venge, who had been making wine at Villa Mt. Eden next door for the past decade, to work with them.
