General Motors Specialty Vehicles
General Motors' Australian business for importing, distributing and supporting selected Chevrolet specialty vehicles.

History
GMSV was created in 2020 during General Motors' withdrawal from the traditional Holden business in Australia. The decision followed a long contraction of GM's Australian manufacturing and distribution footprint. Holden production in Australia ended in 2017, after which the brand continued primarily as an importer. GM subsequently determined that the Holden marque would be retired from new-vehicle sales, with the associated design, engineering and sales infrastructure wound down. The new GMSV structure preserved a limited General Motors vehicle presence in Australia while changing the commercial emphasis. Holden had been a broad national marque whose range included locally produced passenger cars, imported models, sport utility vehicles, light commercial vehicles and performance cars. GMSV instead became a specialist operation, concentrating on a small number of Chevrolet products with distinctive American-market positioning. This model reduced the need for a complete mainstream range and aligned the local business with products that could command interest in enthusiast, performance and large-pickup segments. The Chevrolet Silverado became a central product for the new operation. Because Australia uses right-hand-drive traffic, Silverado vehicles supplied through the local channel require market-specific preparation and conversion before retail sale. GMSV's proposition consequently includes not only importation but also local compliance, distribution, after-sales support, parts and servicing. The Chevrolet Corvette provided a complementary sports-car product, giving the business a high-performance halo offering and maintaining a connection with GM's global performance-vehicle portfolio. The transition from Holden to GMSV also involved changes in retail and customer support. A specialist dealer network was used to sell and service the vehicles, while the former Holden network and its assets were affected by the wider closure of Holden operations. The GMSV model depends on maintaining adequate technical capability and parts support for vehicles that are designed primarily for left-hand-drive markets and are sold in Australia in relatively limited volumes. GMSV is therefore best understood as an Australian market business and sub-brand within General Motors, rather than as an independent vehicle manufacturer. Its significance lies in the way GM retained selected Chevrolet offerings after ending Holden's mass-market role. The operation's future scope depends on GM's global product allocation, Australian vehicle regulation, the economics of right-hand-drive conversion and demand for large pickups and performance vehicles. Public reference material supplied for this entry does not establish a fuller chronology of leadership appointments, financial results or additional corporate transactions.

Chevrolet SilveradoLarge pickup truck2020
The Chevrolet Silverado is GMSV's large American pickup offering in Australia. Vehicles supplied through the local channel are prepared for Australian requirements, including right-hand-drive conversion and market compliance. The line is positioned around towing, payload capability, large dimensions and recreational or commercial utility, rather than the compact and mid-size passenger-vehicle segments formerly associated with Holden.
Chevrolet CorvetteSports car2020
The Chevrolet Corvette is GMSV's performance-oriented sports-car offering. It gives the Australian business a high-profile halo product built around Chevrolet's global performance identity, dramatic styling and sports-car engineering. In the GMSV portfolio it complements the Silverado by addressing enthusiast and premium performance demand rather than serving as a high-volume mainstream vehicle.
