A global professional services network providing audit and assurance, tax, advisory, consulting, legal, outsourcing, and related financial services.
Last updated August 31, 2026
Overview
Forvis Mazars is an international professional services network operating under a single global brand. It was launched in June 2024 through an agreement between Mazars, the long-established French audit and accounting partnership, and Forvis, the United States firm created through the 2022 combination of BKD and Dixon Hughes Goodman. The arrangement created a new global challenger in audit, tax, advisory, and consulting while preserving the separate ownership, legal structures, and profit pools of the two participating firms. The network operates through two principal members. Forvis Mazars Group SC is an internationally integrated partnership based in Paris and serving clients across more than 100 countries and territories. Forvis Mazars LLP is the United States member, headquartered in Springfield, Missouri. A global network board coordinates the relationship and supports cross-border collaboration, but each member firm remains governed by its own partnership and board. This structure distinguishes Forvis Mazars from conventional multinational accounting groups that are controlled by a single corporate parent. The Mazars side of the organization traces its origins to 1945, when Robert Mazars established an accountancy practice in Rouen, Normandy. Under later leaders, particularly Patrick de Cambourg, the firm expanded beyond France and developed an integrated international partnership model. Philippe Castagnac led the group from 2011 to 2016, while Hervé Hélias became group chief executive in 2016 and later served as chairman and chief executive of the Mazars group. The Forvis side brings together the heritage of BKD, founded in the United States in 1923, and Dixon Hughes Goodman, whose modern firm developed through a series of regional combinations. Forvis Mazars serves organizations ranging from privately owned and middle-market businesses to listed companies, financial institutions, governments, public-interest entities, private-equity investors, and multinational groups. Its principal service lines are audit and assurance, tax, advisory and consulting, financial advisory, sustainability, outsourcing, accounting and reporting, legal services, and international support desks. The organization also works across sectors such as financial services, manufacturing, life sciences, private equity, and technology, media, and telecommunications. The network positions itself as an alternative to the largest global accounting firms, emphasizing an integrated partnership structure, international reach, multidisciplinary expertise, and what it describes as an unmatched client experience. Its service proposition combines statutory and financial-statement audit with consulting, transactions, risk, governance, technology, sustainability, tax, and legal work. This breadth allows the group to support clients through growth, restructuring, international expansion, digital transformation, regulatory change, and corporate transactions. At the beginning of 2025, the combined network reported more than 40,000 employees, over 1,800 partners, more than 400 offices, and operations in over 100 countries and territories. For the financial year ended August 31, 2025, combined revenue exceeded $5.7 billion, according to the network’s 2026 announcement. Audit and assurance represented 45 percent of reported revenue, tax 23 percent, advisory activities including consulting, financial advisory, and sustainability 21 percent, and outsourcing 11 percent. The brand has also invested in employer branding, community programs, artificial-intelligence initiatives, and a global identity centered on helping clients prepare for what comes next. Its public profile nevertheless includes controversies inherited from the Mazars business, notably the congressional and judicial disputes involving Mazars USA and Donald Trump’s financial records, as well as scrutiny surrounding the firm’s 2022 proof-of-reserves engagements for cryptocurrency exchanges. These episode…
History
The history of Forvis Mazars combines the development of the French Mazars partnership with the American lineage of Forvis. The Mazars story began in 1945, when Robert Mazars established an accountancy practice in Rouen, Normandy. The firm initially operated as a local accounting business, but it gradually expanded its professional capabilities and geographic reach. Robert Mazars remained chief executive until 1983. Patrick de Cambourg succeeded Mazars in the leadership of the firm and helped turn it into an international organization. The firm’s expansion reflected a deliberate strategy of building an integrated partnership rather than a loose collection of unrelated national practices. By the late 1970s, the organization had grown beyond its original local scale, although it remained much smaller than the large Anglo-American accounting groups that dominated international markets. During the following decades, Mazars expanded throughout Europe and then into other regions. Its development included the establishment and integration of member firms in countries across Asia, Africa, North and South America, and the Middle East. The firm’s international identity was built around common standards, cross-border collaboration, and partnership ownership. Unlike publicly listed professional-services companies, the partnership model allowed the organization to reinvest in international development while maintaining professional independence. Mazars also grew through selected combinations and integrations. In the United Kingdom, it combined with the London office of MRI Moores Rowland in 2007, strengthening its position in the British accountancy market. In the United States, Mazars merged with Weiser in 2010, adding partners and expanding its presence in the northeastern United States. Other national integrations and local combinations extended the Mazars network in markets such as Vietnam and Zimbabwe. Philippe Castagnac became chief executive of Mazars in 2011 and led the group through a period of continued international development. He was succeeded by Hervé Hélias in 2016. Hélias had joined Mazars in 1986 and held several leadership roles, including global banking leadership, responsibility for the public-interest-entity business, managing partner of Mazars France, and group co-chief executive. Under his leadership, Mazars continued to emphasize independence, multidisciplinary services, talent development, and international integration. Hélias also became associated with the creation of Mazars University, an internal development platform intended to strengthen professional training and career progression. The American side of the later network developed from two established U.S. firms. BKD originated in 1923, when William Baird, Wade Kurtz, and Claire Dobson established a firm in Missouri. Dixon Hughes Goodman developed through a separate Southern and Mid-Atlantic accountancy tradition. The two firms announced their combination in 2022 and adopted the name FORVIS, derived from the phrase “forward vision.” Forvis became a major U.S. accounting and advisory firm with a strong middle-market and regional-business presence. In 2023, Mazars and Forvis reached an agreement covering the combination of the U.S. Mazars operations with Forvis and the creation of a single global brand. The arrangement was not a conventional acquisition of one worldwide corporation by another. Instead, it created a two-member network in which Forvis Mazars Group SC and Forvis Mazars LLP retained their respective partnership ownership and profit pools. The firms agreed to coordinate through a global board and operate internationally under the Forvis Mazars name. The new network officially launched on June 3, 2024. The launch gave the combined organization more than 40,000 professionals, over 1,800 partners, more than 400 offices, and a presence in over 100 countries and territories. Forvis Mazars Group SC became the internationally integrated partnership serving markets outside the United States, while Forvis Mazars LLP became the U.S. member firm. The launch was followed by changes in governance. Hervé Hélias became chairman of Forvis Mazars Group and chair of the global network board. In December 2024, the group introduced a governance model separating strategic oversight from executive implementation. Pascal Jauffret, a long-serving Mazars partner with experience in Italy, mergers and acquisitions, and Asia-Pacific expansion, became chief executive of Forvis Mazars Group. Since its formation, the network has broadened its public identity beyond traditional audit and tax work. It has promoted consulting, financial advisory, sustainability, outsourcing, legal services, artificial intelligence, technology transformation, and international growth advisory. Employer campaigns such as Gen You have targeted younger and more diverse candidates, while community impact weeks have coordinated social and environmental volunteering across member firms. The organization’s recent growth has been accompanied by a stronger emphasis on technology and global integration. It has launched AI-focused programs, expanded its Latin American footprint, integrated specialist teams in Spain, and promoted a global brand campaign centered on helping clients prepare for what comes next. For the financial year ended August 31, 2025, the combined network reported revenue above $5.7 billion. The Forvis Mazars history also includes reputationally sensitive episodes inherited from the Mazars business. The firm’s U.S. practice became involved in disputes over congressional and prosecutorial requests for Donald Trump’s financial records. In 2022, Mazars performed proof-of-reserves work for Binance and other cryptocurrency exchanges after the collapse of FTX increased demand for transparency. The firm later suspended such work, explaining that the public could misunderstand the nature and scope of the reports. These matters have influenced discussion about professional independence, assurance standards, and the communication of financial information in emerging markets.
