Overview

Eni Plenitude S.p.A. Società Benefit is an Italian energy company controlled by Eni S.p.A. Its activities combine the retail sale and marketing of electricity and natural gas, renewable-energy generation, energy-efficiency and building-requalification services, and electric-mobility infrastructure. The business serves households and companies and operates across several European markets, while its renewable-generation portfolio extends beyond Europe. The company was created on 1 July 2017 as Eni gas e luce, following the separation of Eni's former Gas & Power division into a dedicated retail company. This structure enabled Eni to manage its household and business energy-sales activities through a more focused operating platform as Italy's electricity market continued to move from regulated arrangements toward competition. The company subsequently broadened its scope beyond conventional energy retail. In 2019, Eni gas e luce acquired a majority interest in SEA S.p.A., entering the energy-requalification field for buildings, including industrial properties and condominiums. It also became an insurance intermediary during the same year and introduced E-Start, a service associated with electric-vehicle charging solutions. In January 2020, it acquired 70 percent of Evolvere, a company involved in the sale, installation, and maintenance of photovoltaic systems. These transactions helped extend the business into distributed generation, energy services, and electrification. The company adopted the legal form of a Società Benefit in July 2021. This made it one of the major Italian energy companies to use the benefit-company structure, which formally incorporates social and environmental objectives alongside business purposes. In August 2021, it acquired all of Be Charge, an Italian electric-vehicle charging-network operator. Be Charge became an important part of Plenitude's electric-mobility proposition. Eni presented the broader Plenitude concept at its Capital Markets Day on 22 November 2021. The concept brought together renewable-energy production, energy retail, energy services, and vehicle charging. In March 2022, Eni gas e luce adopted the Eni Plenitude name, giving the combined platform a distinct identity within the Eni portfolio. In September 2022, Plenitude acquired a 65 percent interest in Hergo Renewables S.p.A., which held renewable projects in Italy and Spain with an indicated total potential capacity of approximately 1.5 gigawatts. Plenitude's operating model is organized around three connected areas. Its retail business sells electricity, gas, and related energy solutions to customers in Italy and other European countries. Its renewable business develops and operates generation projects, including solar and wind assets, and supplies renewable power into the wider portfolio. Its mobility business provides home and public charging services, supported by the Be Charge network and digital tools. From 15 October 2024, the On the Road brand unified home and on-road charging services and incorporated the Be Charge identity into Plenitude's broader mobility proposition. The company is present through renewable projects in Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Greece, Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States, Colombia, Kazakhstan, and Australia. Its retail operations serve customers in Italy, France, Portugal, Greece, Spain, and Slovenia, while electric-mobility services are available in Italy, Austria, France, Germany, Spain, Slovenia, Romania, and Switzerland. According to the supplied reference material, Plenitude had 5.8 gigawatts of installed renewable capacity and 22,758 electric-vehicle charging points at 31 December 2025, and served approximately 10 million energy customers. These figures are time-specific and should be verified against current company disclosures. Eni remains the controlling shareholder. Energy Infrastructure Partners acquired an approximately 7.6 percent stake in March 2024, increasing its holdin…

History

Eni Plenitude originated in the reorganization of Eni's downstream energy activities. On 1 July 2017, Eni created Eni gas e luce after transforming its former Gas & Power division into a separate retail company for household and business gas and electricity sales. The new structure was intended to give Eni a dedicated platform for serving customers as Italy's energy market evolved beyond protected arrangements and toward a competitive free market. The company expanded beyond commodity retail during 2019. It acquired a majority stake in SEA S.p.A., entering energy requalification for buildings such as industrial properties and condominiums. It also obtained authorization to operate as an insurance intermediary and launched E-Start, an electric-vehicle charging service. In January 2020, Eni gas e luce acquired 70 percent of Evolvere, strengthening its presence in photovoltaic-system sales, installation, and maintenance. In July 2021, Eni gas e luce changed its corporate bylaws to become a Società Benefit. In August of the same year, it acquired all of Be Charge, an Italian charging-network company founded in 2017. The acquisition gave Eni gas e luce a substantial platform for electric mobility and supported the integration of energy supply with transport electrification. Eni disclosed the wider Plenitude model at its 22 November 2021 Capital Markets Day. The model connected renewable generation, energy retail, energy services, and electric-vehicle charging in one business. In March 2022, Eni gas e luce was renamed Eni Plenitude, making the integrated strategy visible in the company's public identity. Later that year, Plenitude acquired 65 percent of Hergo Renewables, which controlled renewable projects in Italy and Spain with an indicated portfolio of approximately 1.5 gigawatts. Plenitude's business subsequently developed around renewable generation, retail energy, energy solutions, and electric mobility. Its renewable activities span multiple countries, while retail customers are served in selected European markets. The mobility operation operates in a wider group of European countries and includes the Be Charge network. On 15 October 2024, Plenitude launched On the Road, a unified identity for home and on-road charging services that incorporated Be Charge into the wider Plenitude offering. Ownership also broadened while Eni retained control. Energy Infrastructure Partners acquired an approximately 7.6 percent stake in March 2024 and reportedly increased it to 10 percent in March 2025. The supplied reference material reports that Plenitude had 5.8 gigawatts of installed renewable capacity and 22,758 charging points at 31 December 2025. It also describes a December 2025 agreement with ACEA to acquire ACEA Energia and a 50 percent interest in Umbria Energy, with completion reported for April 2026. That latter event is future-dated relative to many historical company records and should be independently verified before being treated as completed. Stefano Goberti has served as chief executive officer since 5 November 2021. Under the Plenitude identity, the company represents Eni's effort to build an integrated lower-carbon energy platform rather than remain solely a conventional gas-and-electricity retailer.
