Overview
Enfants Riches Déprimés, commonly abbreviated as ERD, is a Los Angeles-based luxury fashion house and multidisciplinary art project founded by Henri Alexander Levy in 2012 after he completed fine-art studies at UCLA. The French name, loosely translating as “depressed rich children,” reflects a deliberately confrontational vocabulary of privilege, alienation, repression and subcultural identification. Rather than presenting itself as a conventional seasonal clothing label, ERD treats fashion as an extension of Levy’s art practice, using garments, objects, interiors, performances, printed matter, music-related projects and exhibitions to construct a highly controlled fictional and psychological world. The label’s early designs established its strategy of extreme specificity. One of its first pieces was a shredded T-shirt bearing the crest of Institut Le Rosey, the Swiss boarding school Levy had attended. The design combined personal biography, institutional symbolism and deliberate abrasion, communicating that ERD was intended to function as an isolating object rather than a broadly accessible commercial product. Its subsequent work has continued to draw on outsider art, Art Brut, punk, childhood imagery, political and historical figures, psychiatric symbolism and obscure cultural references. Levy has cited artists including Jean Dubuffet, Robert Motherwell, Cy Twombly, Antoni Tàpies, Raymond Pettibon, Barbara Kruger and Andrea Fraser, as well as designers Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto. ERD’s clothing is generally made in limited quantities and often receives extensive hand treatment. The house has used Italian wool and cashmere, hand-cast silver, rare skins, furs and other high-quality materials, presenting material weight and durability as part of the conceptual meaning of a piece. Typical designs combine distressed or reconstructed garments with provocative graphics, hand-drawn marks, institutional emblems, slogans and imagery associated with violence, authority, celebrity and psychological distress. The brand’s products are sold as collectible, highly authored objects rather than ordinary wardrobe basics. During the middle of the 2010s, ERD developed a significant stockist network that included Maxfield, 10 Corso Como, Luisa Via Roma, Barneys New York, The Webster and Trois Pommes. The label also attracted public attention through associations with musicians, artists and cultural figures, including Future, Marilyn Manson, Richard Hell, Larry Clark, Vincent Gallo and Daft Punk. Collaborations with Vans and the estate of Cy Twombly broadened its cultural reach while retaining the limited-edition character of the work. The house’s presentation strategy became increasingly important. In 2017 it became the first fashion house to present a runway collection at Christie’s Paris. It later used Sotheby’s Paris, the L’Oratoire du Louvre, Lycée Henri-IV, Lycée Carnot, the Hôtel de Maisons and other architecturally or historically charged spaces. ERD’s shows are conceived as cinematic environments rather than straightforward catwalks, incorporating vehicles, fog, artificial snow, theatrical installations, performance artists, musicians and symbolic props. The brand opened a Paris flagship in 2019, a Seoul flagship in 2025 and announced plans for a New York location in 2026. In 2024, Levy also opened the ANTI PUBLIC LIBRARY beside the Paris store, extending the project into rare books, printed matter and vinyl records. ERD operates at the boundary between luxury fashion, contemporary art and cultural publishing. Its exhibitions have included institutional and gallery presentations in Düsseldorf, Paris and Moscow, while its ancillary output has included show catalogues, posters, video works, records and limited-edition books. The brand remains privately held and is publicly identified primarily with Levy’s continuing creative direction and artistic practice.
History
Henri Alexander Levy founded Enfants Riches Déprimés in late 2012 after studying fine art at UCLA. Levy positioned the label as a continuation of his studio practice, rooted in personal memory, subconscious imagery and emotional distress rather than conventional market research. The early use of a shredded Institut Le Rosey crest T-shirt established a method that combined autobiography with institutional critique and deliberately narrowed the audience through highly specific references. The brand gained early attention among musicians, artists and fashion consumers, with reported supporters including Kanye West, Courtney Love, Frances Bean Cobain, members of Guns N' Roses and Future. Between 2015 and 2017, ERD expanded through prominent international retailers such as Maxfield, 10 Corso Como, Luisa Via Roma, Barneys New York, The Webster and Trois Pommes. During this period, the label’s distressed graphics and subcultural vocabulary became influential within luxury and contemporary fashion. ERD responded aggressively to perceived appropriation, warning stockists that carrying brands it regarded as copying its designs could jeopardize their accounts. Collaborative projects broadened the label’s reach. In 2015, ERD worked with Vans on a hand-drawn custom high-top sneaker. For Fall/Winter 2016, it collaborated with the estate of Cy Twombly on a capsule informed by Twombly’s Polaroid work. In June 2017, ERD presented its SS18 pre-collection at Christie’s Paris, becoming the first fashion house to stage a runway presentation at the historic auction house. Later that year, it collaborated with Daft Punk on merchandise shown at Maxfield Gallery in Los Angeles, where ERD also created a conceptual pawn-shop environment for archival and new pieces. In 2019, the brand opened its first boutique at 79 Rue Charlot in Paris’s Marais district. Designed with Didier Fiúza Faustino, the interior used stainless steel, dark marble, chainmail curtains and distinctive vintage furniture to create an intentionally severe environment. That year Levy also directed the artistic presentation surrounding Future’s EP Save Me, contributing its cover painting and directing the music videos. ERD’s runway work subsequently became a major part of its identity. The SS23 collection was presented at Lycée Henri-IV in October 2022. In 2023, ERD showed SS24 at the L’Oratoire du Louvre with hospital beds incorporated into the setting. In March 2024, the AW24 collection, THE SUN. DISAPPOINTS ME SO., occupied nine floors of an abandoned Paris parking structure with green fog and vintage luxury cars. The SS25 presentation at Sotheby’s Paris in September 2024 used steel cages, live musicians and performance art. In 2024 Levy also established the ANTI PUBLIC LIBRARY next to the Paris flagship, offering rare printed material and original vinyl pressings. The project continued to move between fashion and visual art. ERD participated in the 2022 NRW-Forum Düsseldorf exhibition Subversive Design, contributing objects including a cashmere noose, a politically charged painted jacket, a Columbine-referenced knit and a black teddy bear. In 2023, Levy presented the solo exhibition Orphaned Works at Galerie Raphaël Durazzo in Paris. In December 2025, Triumph Gallery in Moscow presented Ask Us If He Was Our Son, a large solo exhibition spanning paintings, drawings, assemblage and sculpture. The FW25 collection, dictatorship / trimestre d'hiver, was presented at Lycée Carnot in Paris in March 2025 with cardboard tanks and child-dictator imagery. ERD opened its Seoul flagship in Gangnam during 2025, using concrete, rigid geometry, chainmail curtains and historically significant furniture and objects. The SS26 collection was shown at the Hôtel de Maisons in October 2025, with Richard Hell walking in the presentation. On March 8, 2026, ERD staged FW26 at Maison de la Chimie, using artificial snow, Marilyn Manson’s opening appearance and a bronze sculpture central to the show. The brand also announced plans for a TriBeCa flagship in New York and published the limited-edition photo book King of Hate under its E.R.D Paper imprint.

Products and positioning
An anti-mainstream luxury fashion and art house focused on highly limited, hand-worked garments and objects, psychologically charged symbolism, institutional references and immersive cultural experiences.
ERD ready-to-wearLuxury fashion2012
The central product line consists of limited-run garments whose surfaces and construction often receive extensive hand treatment. Distressed T-shirts, sweatshirts, outerwear, tailoring and knitwear incorporate personal, institutional, political and subcultural imagery. The pieces are positioned as authored objects with substantial material and symbolic weight rather than as ordinary seasonal basics.
ERD accessories and objectsAccessories and collectible objects
ERD produces accessories, jewelry and objects that extend its fashion language into collectible form. Materials and techniques have included hand-cast silver, rare skins, unusual textiles and highly finished studio-made components. These objects are generally released in limited quantities and support the house’s broader interest in isolating, psychologically charged signifiers.
E.R.D Paper publicationsArt publishing
The E.R.D Paper imprint publishes limited-edition books and printed matter connected to Levy’s fashion and art practice. The output forms part of ERD’s wider body of invitations, catalogues, posters, records and other ephemera, treating publication as an artistic medium rather than merely promotional material.
