Overview

AdMob is an advertising platform for mobile app developers, helping them display ads in smartphone and tablet applications and generate revenue. Omar Hamoui founded the business in 2006, initially focusing on advertising for mobile websites and applications. As the smartphone app ecosystem expanded, AdMob became an important platform for mobile app monetization. Google announced its acquisition of AdMob in 2009, and after the transaction the brand was integrated into Google's advertising business and connected with Google's advertising technologies, developer tools, and mobile ecosystem. AdMob now primarily supports in-app monetization, ad format management, audience and revenue analytics, and integration with other Google advertising products, serving independent developers, app studios, and large mobile app companies.

History

AdMob was founded by Omar Hamoui in 2006 and initially provided advertising services for mobile websites and applications. At the time, mobile internet was developing rapidly, and developers needed new ways to monetize content on small-screen devices and inside applications. AdMob expanded its advertising network and developer tools, increasingly focusing on in-app advertising. In 2009, Google announced its acquisition of AdMob. The transaction strengthened Google's position in mobile advertising and gave AdMob access to Google's advertising infrastructure and global customer network. After the acquisition, AdMob continued to serve mobile app developers under its own brand while becoming more closely integrated with Google's mobile advertising products. Its activities include in-app ad delivery, ad format selection, revenue optimization, analytics, and connections with other Google advertising and developer services. As mobile applications became a major digital consumption channel, AdMob became one of Google's principal brands for providing advertising monetization capabilities to app developers.
