Overview

Zygmuntówka is a historic mountain hut (schronisko) in the Owl Mountains (Góry Sowie) of the Central Sudetes in Poland. It is officially known as Schronisko PTTK „Zygmuntówka” im. Zygmunta Scheffnera and is located on the slope of Rymarz at 740 m above sea level, within the Góry Sowie Landscape Park, in the upper part of the village of Jugów, gmina Nowa Ruda, Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The hut is one of the few pre-war mountain shelters in the Owl Mountains that survived destruction and continues to serve tourist traffic. It is the only surviving one of three former, once-thriving huts in the area of the Jugowska Pass. The building was erected in 1926 and was known as Henkelbaude until 1945. Since the post-war period it has been owned and operated by PTTK (Polskie Towarzystwo Turystyczno-Krajoznawcze), the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society. The hut offers accommodation and dining services, and is a popular base for hiking and skiing in the region. It can be reached by several marked hiking trails, and in winter a cross-country ski trail connects it to the Andrzejówka shelter. Nearby peaks include Wielka Sowa (1015 m). The hut should not be confused with the同名 shelter in the Saybuscher Beskiden (Żywiec Beskids) in the Carpathians.

History

The Zygmuntówka hut was built in 1926 and was known as Henkelbaude until 1945. It is located on the slope of Rymarz at 740 m above sea level, near the Jugowska Pass (Przełęcz Jugowska) in the Owl Mountains (Góry Sowie), part of the Central Sudetes. After World War II, the hut became the property of PTTK (Polskie Towarzystwo Turystyczno-Krajoznawcze), the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society. It is one of the few pre-war shelters in the Owl Mountains that avoided devastation and has continuously served tourist traffic. It is the only surviving one of three former, once-thriving huts in the vicinity of the Jugowska Pass. The hut is named after Zygmunt Scheffner. It is accessible via several marked hiking trails, and in winter a cross-country ski trail connects it to the Andrzejówka shelter. The nearby Wielka Sowa (1015 m) is a popular hiking destination. The hut should not be confused with the同名 shelter in the Saybuscher Beskiden (Żywiec Beskids) in the Carpathians.
