Overview

Zollner Elektronik AG is a German Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider headquartered in Zandt, Bavaria. Founded in 1965 by Manfred Zollner sen. as a one-man operation, the company has grown into one of Europe's largest EMS providers and a significant global player. It remains 100% family-owned and is led by members of the Zollner family alongside other executives. The company offers a full range of services along the product lifecycle: engineering and new product introduction (NPI), manufacturing of electronic assemblies, cable assembly, inductive components, mechanical processing (sheet metal, plastics, CNC machining, surface finishing), supply chain management, material management, after-sales service and repair. It serves industries including industrial electronics, railway technology, automotive, medical technology, aerospace and defense, metrology, office and data technology, consumer goods and telecommunications. Zollner operates 26 locations worldwide, with nine production sites in eastern Bavaria (Zandt, Lam, Untergschwandt, Neukirchen b. Hl. Blut, Altenmarkt, Furth im Wald) and subsidiaries in Hungary, Romania, China, Tunisia, the USA, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Thailand and India. With around 5,000 employees at its German sites, it is the largest employer in the Cham region. The company has trained over 1,500 apprentices. As a contract manufacturer, Zollner does not own its own product line, with one exception: "Tradinno", a four-legged walking robot listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's largest, which performs annually at the Further Drachenstich, Germany's oldest folk play. Zollner positions itself as "more than an EMS service provider", emphasizing partnership, innovation and regional strength combined with global market knowledge.

History

Zollner Elektronik AG was founded in 1965 by Manfred Zollner sen. as a one-man operation in Zandt, Bavaria. Over the following decades, the company grew steadily, expanding its capabilities from simple electronic assembly to a full-service EMS provider. By the 2000s, Zollner had established itself as a major player in the European EMS market, earning the title of European EMS market leader. In 2011, Zollner began a business relationship with KUKA, a leading automation group, supplying electronic assemblies for KUKA's robot control units. This partnership has since grown into a strategic global collaboration, with Zollner's Romanian plant in Satu Mare supplying assemblies to KUKA's Hungarian facility, and Zollner's Taicang site in China supplying KUKA China. The company has continued to expand its global footprint, establishing subsidiaries in Hungary, Romania, China, Tunisia, the USA, Switzerland, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Thailand and India. It operates 26 locations worldwide and has trained over 1,500 apprentices. Zollner remains 100% family-owned and is now led by the second and third generations of the Zollner family alongside other executives. In recent years, Zollner has been involved in numerous innovative projects, including the production of the ANYmal walking robot for ANYbotics, the CPT®cubes for Coldplasmatech, the Touch Pure Flex smart home panel for Loxone, the QIAcuity precision device for QIAGEN, the compact drive for Berlin Heart's EXCOR® Active heart support system, the world's smallest wireless sensor for Disruptive Technologies, and an AI-based system for railway infrastructure maintenance for KONUX. The company also developed and maintains Tradinno, the world's largest four-legged walking robot, which performs annually at the Further Drachenstich.
