Overview
Zoko Enterprises (Hebrew: זוקו שילובים) is an Israeli company that imports, markets and sells mechanical engineering equipment, vehicles, engines and industrial and defense equipment. It is the exclusive Israeli distributor for Caterpillar construction equipment, and also represents International trucks and buses, Shell lubricants, Donaldson filters, Ingersoll Rand compressors and other global brands. The company employs about 650 people and operates around 80 service vehicles. The business traces its roots to 1948, when the Israeli Company for Tractors and Equipment Ltd. was founded and received the exclusive distribution franchise for Caterpillar. In 1982 a private company called Pazoko was incorporated, specializing in the import and marketing of consumables for the light and heavy vehicle industry. Pazoko changed its name to Zoko Ltd. in 1990, was listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and became a public company. In 2001 it changed its name to Zoko Shiluvim Ltd. Around the end of 2000 it merged with the Israeli Company for Tractors and Equipment, owned by Sir Bernard Schreier, who became the controlling shareholder; through this merger Zoko became the importer of Caterpillar vehicles. In 2003 the company adopted its current name. During the 2000s Zoko expanded by acquiring several companies, including Gor Filters Ltd. (manufacture, marketing and export of automotive filters), Oz Hydraulics and Pneumatics Ltd. (development, manufacture, marketing and repair of hydraulic systems, piping and peripheral equipment) and Siniver (pumping and purification solutions). It also obtained the exclusive distribution franchise for Tatra, a manufacturer of off-road and road trucks. In February 2008 Zoko acquired the franchise to market Tatra trucks in Israel, including an existing service agreement with the Ministry of Defense, and acquired 50% of a venture to develop an armored vehicle based on a Tatra truck chassis; the vehicle, named Wildcat, was developed with Israel Military Industries. Later Zoko fell into dispute with Tatra, and in 2017 the marketing franchise passed to Tash'tit of the Ta'avura Group. On 19 July 2010 Zoko Shiluvim's share was moved to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange's "maintenance list" due to failure to meet criteria, and trading ceased. On 20 July 2012 the company's share was delisted because 24 months had passed since it stopped trading on the main list. At the end of June 2015 a joint purchase offer by the Israeli Company for Tractors and Equipment Ltd. and Yosef Samira to acquire about 21.3% of the shares not held by the offerors was accepted. Following this acquisition the company became a private company fully owned by the buyers. Today Zoko Group describes itself as the leading and influential group in Israel in the import, marketing and sale of equipment, spare parts, project initiation and advanced services in the fields of infrastructure, transportation, energy, water, industry and automotive. It states that it exclusively imports and markets leading global brands such as International, Perkins, Ingersoll Rand, Rocol, Donaldson, Shell and Caterpillar. Its activities span infrastructure (Caterpillar construction equipment, Montabert, Sandvik, Normet, Mining Equipment), industry (Shell, Donaldson, hydraulics, pumps, filters, maintenance equipment, lubricants, adhesives, cleaning materials, batteries, pneumatic tools), transportation (International trucks and buses), water (Siniver Shiluvim, pumps and wastewater treatment, representing EDI), and energy (Caterpillar generators and turbines, gas, bio-gas and diesel generators, industrial and marine engines, cogeneration systems, Ingersoll-Rand compressed air systems and industrial compressors). The company also operates a professional training and certification center recognized by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor, offering training for heavy equipment mechanics and operators, a simulator classroom, and pre-military courses.
