ZENNER International GmbH & Co. KG is headquartered in Saarbrücken, Germany, and describes itself as a global leading manufacturer of water meters, heat and cooling energy meters, gas meters, submetering and digital solutions for remote reading. The company states it has been developing, producing and marketing measuring equipment for global markets for over 100 years, and exports its measuring instruments to over 90 countries. Its business activities cover water meters, heat and cooling meters, heat cost allocators, gas meters, systems technology, smart metering and smoke detectors. ZENNER is part of the Minol-ZENNER Group, described as a family-run consortium with around 4,500 employees worldwide and subsidiaries and distributors in more than 60 countries.

ZENNER's corporate history states that Karl Adolf Zenner Snr laid the foundation stone for the present-day company, ZENNER International, in 1903 with the founding of a marketing company for water meters. In 1924, the Karl Adolf Zenner Water Meter Factory commenced production of its own water meters, the company's first water meter coming off the assembly line. The meters produced since 1924 gained acceptance in the market, and in 1930 ZENNER continued to expand. In 1946, with management taken over by the founder's son, Karl Adolf Zenner Jnr, and with raw materials scarce after the Second World War, ZENNER turned to plastic for the manufacture of water meters. The internationalisation of the company started in 1987 on the initiative of Dr Peter Zenner, who had taken over the management of the firm in 1980.
