Overview

The Zehnacker-Gruppe is a German facility management group headquartered in Singen in Baden-Württemberg. It traces its origins to 1929, when Albert Venedai Zehnacker started a business in Koberwitz near Breslau. After moving to Singen in 1933 and a subsequent divorce settlement in 1947, the firm passed to Elisabeth Zehnacker, who continued it under the Zehnacker name. The company was entered in the Handwerksrolle of the Handwerkskammer Konstanz in 1949 and expanded during the 1950s and 1960s under the leadership of Elisabeth Zehnacker's son, Albert Rolf Burkart. In 1972 the group founded a subsidiary in Austria, and by 1982 it employed 2,000 people. In April 2004 the German private equity investor Odewald & Cie acquired a 45% stake alongside the Burkart family. In spring 2006 Zehnacker acquired GA-tec Gebäude- und Anlagentechnik GmbH, based in Heidelberg, and in winter of the same year took a majority stake in the private nursing home operator Vitanas-Gruppe in Berlin. In December 2008 the shareholders announced the sale of a 90% majority to Sodexo; Odewald and the Burkart family initially retained the remaining 10%. As part of the sale to Sodexo, the Vitanas (elderly care) division was spun off and acquired by the Burkart family. In 2009 the company was taken over by the French Sodexo Group and fully integrated into it by 2015. Today Zehnacker operates as part of Sodexo, providing integrated facility management services including technical services, building cleaning, green area maintenance, reception services, and postal services. Sodexo Deutschland describes its offering as combining food services, soft facility management, and hard facility management through its subsidiary GA-tec. The German Sodexo website highlights integrated facility management that supports companies with buildings, technology, and workplaces, and food service concepts such as Modern Recipe and the cooking robot goodBytz. The Zehnacker brand remains associated with the facility management heritage within the Sodexo group.

History

The Zehnacker-Gruppe is a German facility management group based in Singen, Baden-Württemberg. Its history begins with Albert Venedai Zehnacker, who studied law in Breslau and started his own business in 1929 in Koberwitz near Breslau. In 1933 he moved to Singen, where he met Elisabeth Burkart, née Gromotka, who was then married to Albert Burkart and had three children with him. Albert Burkart died in 1934. In June 1947 Albert Venedai and Elisabeth Zehnacker divorced; as part of the legal settlement, Elisabeth received the firm, which she continued alone under the name Zehnacker. After the war, the company was entered in the Handwerksrolle of the Handwerkskammer Konstanz in 1949. The 1950s and 1960s were marked by the expansion of the company at its Singen location under the leadership of Elisabeth Zehnacker's son, Albert Rolf Burkart. In 1972 the company took its first step abroad with the founding of the Zehnacker-Unternehmensgruppe in Austria. By 1982 the company employed 2,000 people. In April 2004 the German private equity investor Odewald & Cie acquired a 45% stake alongside the Burkart family. In spring 2006 the Zehnacker-Gruppe acquired GA-tec Gebäude- und Anlagentechnik GmbH, headquartered in Heidelberg, and in winter of the same year it took a majority stake in the private nursing home operator Vitanas-Gruppe in Berlin. In December 2008 the shareholders announced the sale of a 90% majority stake in the company to Sodexo; Odewald and the Burkart family initially retained the remaining 10%. As part of the sale to Sodexo, the Vitanas (elderly care) division was spun off and acquired by the Burkart family. In 2009 the company was taken over by the French Sodexo Group and fully integrated into it by 2015. Following the integration, the Zehnacker brand and its facility management expertise became part of Sodexo's German operations. Sodexo Deutschland today offers building services from a single source, combining food services, soft facility management, and hard facility management through its subsidiary GA-tec. The German Sodexo website describes integrated facility management covering buildings, technology, and workplaces, including technical services such as building cleaning and green area maintenance, as well as reception services and postal services. Food service concepts include Modern Recipe and the cooking robot goodBytz. The Zehnacker heritage remains part of Sodexo's facility management offering in Germany.
