Overview

Zanlakol Ltd. (Hebrew: זנלכל בע"מ) is an Israeli public company engaged in the development, production, and marketing of processed vegetable and fruit products. Founded on 23 May 1940 and acquired by Dov Sheinfeld in 1947, the company is named after the Hebrew blessing "HaZan et HaKol" ("He who nourishes all"). It operates major brands including Yachin, Pri Mevurach, and Pri Ze, and also produces private-label products for various retail chains. The company has been listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange since 1983. Zanlakol's production facility is located in the Alon Tavor Industrial Park near Afula, in the heart of the Galilee. The 16-acre (65-dunam) site was established in 1986 with an investment of $12 million, when the company moved from its original plant in Haifa. The facility processes approximately 70,000 tons of agricultural produce annually, including citrus, corn, tomatoes, peas, carrots, chickpeas, beans, melon, apple, and peppers. The company emphasizes advanced production technology, carefully selected fresh vegetables and tomatoes from local growers under long-term contracts, and environmental practices such as recycling water for irrigation of nearby fields. Zanlakol's product range includes tomato products (crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato concentrate, diced tomatoes, and various flavored crushed tomato products), corn, hummus, and other processed vegetable and fruit items. Its products are marketed in Israel and exported worldwide, with exports accounting for a small share of revenue (about 2% as of 2020), primarily to the United States and Europe. The company holds international and kosher certifications. As of January 2022, the Sheinfeld family, including chairman Jacob Sheinfeld and his relatives, holds approximately 70% of the company. In March 2023, Zanlakol acquired the financially troubled Ramat HaGolan Dairy for NIS 33 million. In June 2023, it was reported that the company's Alon Tavor plant was expected to be sold to a REIT fund in a sale-and-leaseback transaction for 10 years, with the asset valued at over NIS 100 million.

History

Zanlakol Ltd. was founded on 23 May 1940 as a small family factory in the Haifa Bay area. In 1947, it was acquired by Dov Sheinfeld. The company's name is inspired by the Hebrew blessing "HaZan et HaKol" ("He who nourishes all"). In 1983, Zanlakol was listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. At that time, it was still a small family factory with sales of about NIS 10 million, and 80% of its sales were exported to the United Kingdom, mainly grapefruit segments. In 1986, the company moved from its Haifa plant to a new 65-dunam (16-acre) facility in the Alon Tavor Industrial Park, built with an investment of $12 million. In 1992, the Yachin company, like many factories of the Histadrut's workers' company, ran into financial difficulties and was sold to businessman Sami Shimon. In 1998, Zanlakol acquired Yachin's food canning operations and turned the Yachin brand into its main and broadest brand. In July 1999, the declaration of Yachin as a monopoly in the pectin field was cancelled. In 2005, Jacob Sheinfeld was appointed active chairman of the board, and he appointed Pini Gurevich as CEO. Over the years, Zanlakol expanded its product portfolio. As of 2020, the company exported about 2% of its total revenues, mainly to the United States and Europe. Its products have often been selected as innovations at leading international exhibitions. At the SIAL 2010 food exhibition in Paris, contacts were made with buyers from Domino's Pizza in the United States and France for the supply of sauces. At the same time, Zanlakol announced initial contacts with the large French retailer Carrefour, which was about to open its first branch in Israel. As of January 2022, Jacob Sheinfeld held 36% of the company's shares, and together with his two sisters, children, and nephews, the family held about 70% of the company. In March 2023, the company acquired Ramat HaGolan Dairy for NIS 33 million. In June 2023, it was reported that the company's Alon Tavor plant would be sold to a REIT fund in a sale-and-leaseback transaction for 10 years, with the asset valued at over NIS 100 million.
