Overview
Zéphyr & Borée is a maritime company specializing in the ownership of low-carbon ships and a pioneer in modern sail-powered maritime transport. The company designs, finances, and operates decarbonized cargo ships. Its history began in 2015 with the meeting of four founders: three merchant marine officers and a financier.
History
The Zéphyr & Borée adventure began in 2015 from the meeting of the four founders: 3 merchant marine officers and a financier. Nils Joyeux and Victor Depoers finished their studies at the École Nationale Supérieure Maritime, Amaury Bolvin was in charge of commercial development for brands of an agri-food group in Asia, and Bernard Peignon, the oldest of the team, retired after a long career as a sailor and then fleet director. Nils and Victor completed in 2015 a thesis on the economic and technical feasibility of using wind as a means of propulsion on merchant ships. From this study emerged two conclusions: wind propulsion is viable, but above all, it is the simplest and most radical means to decarbonize the propulsion of large merchant ships.
