Overview

Yuyu Kukan (ゆう遊空間) is a Japanese membership-based amusement and manga café brand operated by Standard Corp., a subsidiary of Koshidaka Holdings. The concept combines a manga library, internet café, karaoke, darts, billiards, table tennis and a drink bar in a single facility, positioning it as a comprehensive leisure space rather than a single-purpose venue. The brand is closely associated with the JOYSOUND karaoke ecosystem and is often branded as "Yuyu Kukan by JOYSOUND." The first Yuyu Kukan store opened in 2000 under Media Create, a company originally established in 1998 in Numazu, Shizuoka, as a subsidiary of Goto. Media Create began franchising the Yuyu Kukan concept in 2001 and later became part of the Exing (Brother Industries) group before being absorbed into Standard Corp. in 2014. Under Standard Corp., Yuyu Kukan continued to operate as a composite café brand alongside JOYSOUND direct-operated karaoke boxes and group restaurants. Yuyu Kukan facilities are fully membership-based, requiring a one-time registration fee (330 yen including tax as stated on the official site). Members can select seats freely, use massage chairs, high-spec PCs, read comics, magazines and newspapers, and enjoy billiards, darts and other games. A drink bar is standard. Store facilities vary by location, and pricing differs by store. As of the official website, Yuyu Kukan promotes seasonal campaigns such as summer all-you-can-drink promotions and 24-hour day packs, and it also highlights new manga releases and online game information. The brand operates in Kanagawa, Shizuoka and Aichi prefectures according to Wikipedia, though the official site lists stores such as Mikawa Anjo and Ito, indicating a presence in Aichi and Shizuoka. In 2025, Standard Corp.'s karaoke box, composite café and restaurant businesses—including Yuyu Kukan—were transferred to Koshidaka SP, a subsidiary of Koshidaka Holdings, which was renamed Standard Corp. (2nd generation). The JOYSOUND brand was retained rather than converted to Koshidaka's own "Karaoke Manekineko" brand. Yuyu Kukan thus continues as part of the Koshidaka group's amusement portfolio.

History

The Yuyu Kukan brand originated with Media Create Co., Ltd., established on July 2, 1998, in Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture, as a subsidiary of Goto for the reorganization of Goto's karaoke business. In 2000, Media Create opened the first Yuyu Kukan manga café. In 2001, the company began franchising the Yuyu Kukan concept. In 2002, it entered a partnership and franchise agreement with Culture Convenience Club (CCC), and in October of that year, it ceased to be a subsidiary of Goto through a third-party allotment of shares. On August 5, 2005, Media Create listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers market with securities code 2451, and it concluded a franchise capital and business agreement with CCC. On November 26, 2013, a tender offer by Exing (a Brother Industries group company) succeeded, making Media Create a wholly owned subsidiary of Exing and delisting it from the TSE Mothers. On April 1, 2014, Media Create was absorbed and merged into Standard Corp. (first generation), which inherited the operation of the "Megaton" karaoke boxes and the "Yuyu Kukan" composite café. Standard Corp. (first generation) was established in December 1993. In August 2003, it changed its trade name from BMB Axis to U's BMB Standard and took over store operations from USEN. In January 2005, it changed its name to Standard Corp. In March 2007, it moved its headquarters to Midtown Tower in Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo. In April 2009, it ended the JAL Mileage Bank "Karaoke Mile" service at its U-STYLE, U-BOU and EL-NOTES karaoke boxes. In January 2010, its parent BMB became a subsidiary of Exing, making Standard a grandchild company of Exing. In March 2010, it absorbed Taikan Enterprise. In June 2010, it moved its headquarters to Shiba Park Building in Shiba Koen, Minato, Tokyo. On July 1, 2010, Exing absorbed BMB, making Standard a subsidiary of Exing. In December 2010, it withdrew from the buffet bar business. In March 2011, it received three JOYSOUND stores from Exing through an absorption-type split. In March 2013, it moved its headquarters to Shinagawa NBS Building in Konan, Minato, Tokyo. On April 1, 2014, it absorbed Media Create, thereby inheriting Yuyu Kukan. Under Standard Corp., Yuyu Kukan operated as "Yuyu Kukan by JOYSOUND" in Kanagawa, Shizuoka and Aichi prefectures. In 2016, Standard began operating the urban internet café brand "NET-CUBE" in Tokyo, with the first store opening in Chofu on June 1, 2016, followed by Shinjuku West Exit (February 17, 2017), Shibuya (August 23, 2017), Tachikawa North Exit (November 16, 2017) and Nishi-Kasai (July 3, 2020). On September 12, 2025, Brother Industries and Koshidaka Holdings announced that Standard Corp.'s entire businesses—karaoke box, composite café and restaurant—would be transferred to Koshidaka SP, a company established by Koshidaka Holdings on September 1, 2025, through an absorption-type split effective November 1, 2025. On November 1, 2025, 73 stores including "JOYSOUND" and "Yuyu Kukan by JOYSOUND" were transferred to Koshidaka SP, which simultaneously changed its trade name to Standard Corp. (second generation). The new company retained the JOYSOUND brand rather than converting to Koshidaka's own "Karaoke Manekineko" brand. Exing would focus on manufacturing and developing the commercial communication karaoke system JOYSOUND. The first-generation Standard Corp. completed its liquidation on April 2, 2026. The second-generation Standard Corp. moved its registered head office from Dogenzaka, Shibuya, Tokyo, to Konan, Minato, Tokyo, on December 1, 2025. Yuyu Kukan continues to operate as a membership-based composite café under the Koshidaka group, with stores in Aichi and Shizuoka prefectures as indicated by the official website.
