Overview
Yu Jun Biotechnology (裕雋生物科技股份有限公司) is a Taiwanese biotechnology company based in Neipu Township, Pingtung County, Taiwan. It was founded in 2015 by a research team from Meiho University (美和科技大学) led by Professor Wu Yuren, originally as the WCH youth entrepreneurship team. The company specializes in developing skincare and cosmetic products from marine and plant extracts, with a focus on circular economy and environmental sustainability. Its flagship product line, WCH (World Class Hydration), features the world's first skincare products based on Cassiopea jellyfish extract, developed after the team discovered the jellyfish's remarkable regenerative abilities. The company also develops ingredients from invasive plants like Mikania micrantha (小花蔓泽兰, known as 'green cancer') and cocoa pod husks, turning environmental problems into valuable resources. Yu Jun Biotechnology operates a manufacturing facility in Neipu Industrial Zone, obtained factory registration in February 2021, and received ISO 22716 international GMP cosmetic certification in March 2021. The company holds multiple patents in Taiwan and mainland China for jellyfish, Mikania micrantha, cocoa husk, and Asystasia gangetica extracts, and has won numerous awards at international invention exhibitions.
History
Yu Jun Biotechnology originated in the summer of 2015, when a research team from Meiho University in southern Taiwan, specializing in biochemistry, collaborated with the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium in Pingtung to address an overpopulation problem of Cassiopea jellyfish. During laboratory cultivation, the team observed a jellyfish that had been cut in half by the water supply system but survived, sparking curiosity about its regenerative abilities. This led to research into marine biological regeneration and ecological sustainability. In 2016, under the guidance of Professor Wu Yuren, the Meiho University youth entrepreneurship team participated in the Ministry of Education's U-START program, developing skincare product formulas and commissioning manufacturing, creating the WCH (World Class Hydration) brand. They received the 2016 U-START award. In 2017, the team discovered Mikania micrantha, an invasive plant known as 'green cancer' for its rapid spread, and successfully extracted it to develop skincare products, turning an environmental problem into a resource. The WCH brand was showcased at the 2017 Tokyo Beauty Expo, Taipei International Biotech Beauty Expo, and other events, winning numerous awards. In 2019, they developed cocoa husk extract and continued to gain recognition. In August 2020, the team established Yu Jun Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and moved into a manufacturing facility in Neipu Industrial Zone, planning research labs and production lines. In February 2021, they obtained factory registration, and in March 2021, they received ISO 22716 international GMP cosmetic certification. The company continues to develop and produce skincare products based on marine and plant extracts, upholding its original vision of creating quality products and circular economy value.
