Yoshizawa LIME Industry Co., Ltd.

Yoshizawa Lime Industry Co., Ltd. is a Japanese company founded in 1868, engaged in the mining, manufacturing, research, and sales of lime and dolomite products. It owns rich limestone and dolomite mines with over 1 billion tons of reserves. The company produces quicklime, slaked lime, light-burned dolomite, magnesium hydroxide, ground calcium carbonate, and precipitated calcium carbonate, used in steelmaking, soil improvement, agriculture, environmental treatment, and papermaking.

The company was founded in 1868 when Yoshizawa Hyouzaemon Shousui participated in the lime business managed by his younger brother Kisoji Roubei in the old Kuzuu town. In 1873, it was named Yoshizawa Lime Manufacturing Plant and started lime business with two factories. In 1939, it was reorganized as Yoshizawa Lime Industry Co., Ltd. with capital of 1.5 million yen. The company has expanded its operations, including opening the Kuzuu plant in 1896, starting transactions with Nippon Kokan (now JFE Steel) in 1914, and establishing a joint venture with Nippon Kokan in 1933. In 1954, it acquired the Kanto Steel's Yokose lime plant and established the Chichibu plant. In 1968, it built a Merz shaft kiln at Kuzuu plant and established the Kimitsu plant inside the Kimitsu steelworks of Yawata Iron & Steel (now Nippon Steel). The company has continued to develop new products and facilities, such as the high-reactivity slaked lime 'Calmew' production facility in 1997 and the composite agent production facility in 2000. In 1998, the head office was moved to Nihonbashi Koami-cho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.
