Overview

Yinwang, formally Shenzhen Yinwang Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., is Huawei's dedicated automotive technology company. It evolved from Huawei Intelligent Automotive Solution, the business unit Huawei created to provide vehicle components, software and broader technology solutions to automakers. Rather than selling passenger cars under a conventional mass-market brand, Yinwang operates primarily as a business-to-business automotive technology platform and as the corporate structure supporting Huawei's increasingly integrated partnerships with vehicle manufacturers. Huawei publicly established its automotive solutions business at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2019. The original purpose was to supply automakers with technologies and components while avoiding the role of a conventional vehicle manufacturer. Its offerings have included advanced driver-assistance systems, vehicle computing, lidar and other sensing-related hardware, electric-drive and power-management components, intelligent cockpits, operating-system and software services, lighting, chassis and thermal-management technologies. The company therefore occupies a position between a traditional Tier 1 supplier and a strategic vehicle-development partner. In January 2024, Huawei separated the automotive business into a wholly owned subsidiary named Shenzhen Yinwang Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., reportedly with initial registered capital of RMB 1 billion. The restructuring was intended to give the business greater operational independence and to create a platform through which vehicle manufacturers could invest and cooperate. At an event held before the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, Jin Yuzhi, then chief executive of Huawei's Intelligent Automotive Solution business, introduced Qiankun as a technology brand associated with intelligent-driving, vehicle-control, cockpit, audio and seating solutions. Yinwang's operating model is organized around different degrees of Huawei participation. At the deepest level is the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance, or HIMA, under which Huawei can participate in product definition, design, user experience, marketing, quality processes and delivery while the automotive partner undertakes manufacturing. A less integrated arrangement, known as Huawei Inside Plus, gives the automaker primary responsibility for research, development, product execution and sales while allowing Huawei to participate deeply in selected stages. Huawei Inside supplies a full-stack intelligent-driving solution and smart cockpit without Huawei taking responsibility for the vehicle's complete design, development or marketing. The most basic arrangement is standardized component and solution supply. The HIMA ecosystem has been associated with automotive brands and manufacturers including AITO with Seres, Luxeed with Chery, Stelato with BAIC BluePark, Maextro with JAC and later cooperation involving SAIC. Separately, Huawei technology has been used or proposed for vehicles associated with Arcfox, Avatr, Deepal, Voyah, Dongfeng, GAC-related businesses, GAC Toyota, Dongfeng Nissan and others. The branding used by partner vehicles has not always been uniform: some vehicles have used Huawei Inside terminology, while others have emphasized Qiankun Smart Driving, Harmony Cockpit or partner-specific brand identities. In August 2024, Avatr Technology and Seres Group announced plans to acquire 10% stakes each in Yinwang. The announced transaction price was RMB 11.5 billion per 10% stake, implying a transaction valuation of RMB 115 billion, subject to the terms and completion of the announced deal. The proposed ownership structure illustrated Huawei's attempt to make Yinwang a strategically aligned, partner-backed automotive technology platform rather than merely an internal division. Yinwang's strategic significance comes from Huawei's combination of consumer electronics expertise, telecommunications engineering, operating-system development, cloud services and hardware integration. Its automotive proposition is not limited to a single component: the company aims to provide modular systems that can be adopted separately or combined into a broader intelligent-vehicle architecture. Major solution families described in public materials include Huawei ADS for assisted driving, Harmony Space or Harmony Cockpit for the intelligent cabin, Qiankun Vehicle Control for chassis and thermal functions, Qiankun Auto Lighting and Qiankun Vehicle Cloud Service. Yinwang remains primarily an enabling and partnership brand; the vehicles themselves are generally manufactured and sold by automotive partners.

History

Huawei's automotive activity began as an attempt to apply its communications, computing, software and hardware capabilities to the vehicle industry without becoming a conventional automaker. At the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2019, Huawei formally announced Huawei Intelligent Automotive Solution as a business dedicated to selling automotive parts and technical solutions to vehicle manufacturers. The unit's remit covered both individual components and larger technology architectures, allowing automakers to use Huawei systems while retaining responsibility for vehicle production. The business expanded as Chinese automakers accelerated investment in electric vehicles, connected cabins and assisted driving. Huawei developed a portfolio that combined sensing hardware, high-performance computing, algorithms, operating systems, cockpit electronics, power systems, chassis technologies and cloud services. This breadth allowed it to work with partners under several different commercial models. In a component-supplier model, the automaker purchases selected hardware or software. Under Huawei Inside, Huawei supplies a fuller intelligent-driving and cockpit package but does not take over vehicle design and marketing. Huawei Inside Plus increases Huawei's involvement in product definition and selected development and commercial functions. HIMA represents the most integrated model, with Huawei contributing to product definition, design, user experience, marketing, quality and delivery while the partner remains responsible for manufacturing. In May 2022, BAIC Group's Arcfox launched the Alpha S, identified as the first vehicle developed under the Huawei Inside model. Huawei's role subsequently broadened across additional automakers and vehicle brands. In March 2024, Huawei representatives said that Deepal, M-Hero and Voyah would use Huawei Inside for selected models. Public market positioning later varied by partner: some vehicles emphasized Qiankun Smart Driving or Harmony Cockpit rather than displaying a Huawei Inside badge. In January 2024, Huawei established Shenzhen Yinwang Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. as a wholly owned subsidiary and gave the automotive operation a distinct corporate identity. The move was part of a strategy to operate the business more independently and to support capital participation by vehicle manufacturers. In April 2024, Jin Yuzhi introduced Qiankun as a technology brand for solutions involving intelligent driving, chassis or vehicle control, audio and driver-seat functions. The ownership and partnership structure changed materially in August 2024, when Avatr Technology and Seres Group announced plans to each invest for 10% of Yinwang. The stated price was RMB 11.5 billion for each 10% holding, implying a valuation of RMB 115 billion. The proposed transaction demonstrated the strategic value Huawei's partners placed on access to its automotive technology stack and development ecosystem. It also created a structure in which key automakers could have a direct economic interest in the platform. Huawei's collaboration network continued to widen. In September 2024, GAC Toyota reportedly decided to upgrade its cooperation with Huawei to the Huawei Inside model, with two new models planned for launch in 2027. In November 2024, Dongfeng Nissan and Huawei signed an agreement to develop a vehicle using Harmony Cockpit under the Huawei Inside approach, described as the first cooperation of this kind involving a Sino-foreign joint venture. In February 2025, SAIC Motor and Huawei signed a broader strategic agreement covering product definition, production and manufacturing, supply-chain management and sales services. The public material also describes further extensions of the partnership model. GAC Group established Huawang Automotive Technology in March 2025 to cooperate with Huawei on an independent high-end automotive brand; later announcements associated that project with the Qijing brand. Dongfeng announced a new Huawei cooperation arrangement in September 2025 involving M-Hero and an expanded management model, and the Yijing brand was announced in November 2025. These later developments indicate that Yinwang's role is not confined to component supply: depending on the partner, it can support brand creation, product strategy, integrated development and marketing systems. Today, Yinwang is best understood as a Huawei automotive platform rather than a consumer vehicle marque. Its business is built around reusable technologies such as Huawei ADS, Harmony Space, Qiankun Vehicle Control, Qiankun Auto Lighting and vehicle cloud services. The company works through alliances, joint ventures and supplier relationships, while partner automakers generally manufacture and distribute the resulting vehicles. Its long-term position depends on the adoption of Huawei's software and hardware stack, the ability to scale across different vehicle platforms and the balance between Huawei's integration ambitions and automakers' desire to retain control over their own brands and engineering organizations.
