Yamato Sewing Machine Mfg. Co., Ltd. is a Japanese manufacturer of industrial sewing machines. Its history traces to 1927, when Manjiro Kondo founded Kondo Sewing Machine Company in Osaka; in 1946 a manufacturing company named Yamato Sewing Machine Mfg. Co., Ltd. was established in Toyonaka City, Osaka, and completed Model DC-1, described as the first Japan-made overlock machine. In 1946, a sales company named Kondo Co., Ltd. was established in Osaka City and a manufacturing company named Yamato Sewing Machine Mfg. Co., Ltd. was established in Toyonaka City, Osaka; Model DC-1, described as the first Japan-made overlock machine, was completed. In 1948 the sales company was renamed Kondo Sewing Machine Co., Ltd. In 1949 the company's standard drawing of an overlock stitch machine was adopted as the original plan of the Japan Standard Specification. In 1960 Manjiro Kondo received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays. In 1966 the DCZ-361 high speed safety stitch machine was released, and in 1968 the DV-1400 series high speed flat bed interlock stitch machine was released.
