Overview

Yamashina Corporation (株式会社ヤマシナ) is a Japanese manufacturer of industrial fasteners, primarily screws and bolts, headquartered in Kyoto. The company traces its origins to 1925, when it received a private bonded factory license from the Ministry of Finance. Over the decades, it developed deep expertise in precision screw manufacturing, becoming the first in Japan to successfully domesticate cross-recessed screws in 1949. It later expanded into tapping screws, precision screws for the US Air Force, and licensed technologies from international partners such as ITW, Continental Screw, Textron, EJOT, and Conti Fasteners. The company serves major automotive and electrical machinery manufacturers, offering not only standard fasteners but also fastening engineering services, including paid fastening tests and consulting. Its product portfolio includes aluminum bolts (ALTIMA), thread-forming screws for resins, and flow drill fasteners (SELFA). Yamashina emphasizes reducing total product cost and weight, and improving manufacturing efficiency for its customers. In October 2024, Yamashina Corporation succeeded the metal products business of Y's Holdings Co., Ltd. (Wise Holdings) through an absorption-type company split. The company continues to operate under the Y's Holdings umbrella, with a focus on innovation in fastening technology, including joint research on aluminum bolts with Kyushu University and Nippon Light Metal, and participation in space and drone-related exhibitions. Its management philosophy centers on converting the impossible into the possible through advanced elemental technologies, contributing to global industry and society.

History

Yamashina Corporation's history dates back to 1925, when it received a private bonded factory license from the Ministry of Finance. In 1930, it began processing army weapon parts, and in 1938, it established the Higashino Plant. A major milestone came in 1949 when the company became the first in Japan to successfully domesticate cross-recessed screws. In 1953, with technical assistance from the US Air Force, it established a precision screw production system and partnered with the Air Force and private aircraft companies. The headquarters was moved to the Higashino Plant in 1954, and the company also succeeded in domesticating tapping screws at the government's request. In 1956, it was registered with the Defense Agency, and in 1957, it was incorporated into the Defense Agency's aircraft parts production series. During the 1960s, Yamashina received several awards for industrial standardization and quality control, including the Osaka Regional Trade and Industry Bureau Director's Award in 1961 and the Agency of Industrial Science and Technology Director's Award in 1963. It also entered into patent license agreements with US companies: ITW for SEMS in 1964, Continental Screw for TAPTITE in 1968, and Textron for the RAYCARA method in 1969. In 1973, it signed a license and technical assistance agreement with Textron for the TORX drive system, followed by agreements for SUPERTAPTITE in 1978 and STRAX in 1979. In 1987, it signed a patent license agreement with E.I.S. (UK) for SPADrive, and in 1994, another with Textron for the TORX PLUS drive system. In 1998, the company was certified as a factory under the Steel Club standard for steel house manufacturing materials and parts, and was approved as a testing laboratory under the US Fastener Quality Act. In 1999, it signed a technology agreement with Conti Fasteners (Switzerland) for TAPTITE 2000. In 2001, it signed a patent license agreement with EJOT (Germany) for DELTA PT resin screws and obtained ISO 9001 certification. In 2003, it obtained ISO 14001 certification for its Kyoto headquarters and plant. In 2006, it signed a patent license agreement with EJOT for ALTRAC light alloy screws. In 2010, it signed a contract for local production and technical tie-up with Dongguan Yibao Sankyo Hardware Fittings Co., Ltd. (China), followed by a business alliance agreement in 2011. On October 1, 2024, Yamashina Corporation succeeded the metal products business of Y's Holdings Co., Ltd. through an absorption-type company split. The company continues to innovate, starting joint research on aluminum bolts with Kyushu University and Nippon Light Metal in 2026, and launching the ALTIMA aluminum bolt. It also began investigating the use of its fastening technology in space applications and acquired shares of Yamashina Bangkok Fastening Company Limited.
