Overview

YAMAE GROUP HOLDINGS CO., LTD. (ヤマエグループホールディングス株式会社) is a Japanese holding company established on 1 October 2021 to oversee the Yamae Group, a diversified distribution and food-trading enterprise headquartered in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka. The group's operating core, Yamaehisano Co., Ltd. (ヤマエ久野株式会社), traces its origins to the 1950 merger that created Kabushiki Kaisha Enatsu Shoten, later renamed Yamae Shokai, then Yamae Hisano in 1969 following a merger with Kuno Shokuryo. The group describes itself as a "total distribution supporter" connecting people, companies and society, with business organized around three functions: products (food and housing-related goods), logistics, and support services. The group's product portfolio spans general processed foods, frozen foods, flour, alcoholic beverages, agricultural produce, feed, fresh produce, meat, and building and housing materials. It supplies convenience stores, mass retailers, and food-service operators, and operates joint-delivery logistics for those goods. Yamaehisano is a key distribution partner for Seven-Eleven in Kyushu, having helped attract the chain to the region, and also manufactures delicatessen items for Seven-Eleven. Other major customers include restaurant chains such as Royal Host and Joyfull in Kyushu. Beyond food wholesale, the group has expanded through subsidiaries into liquor manufacturing (Takachiho Shuzo), petroleum (Yamae Sekiyu), warehousing and transport (Takachiho Soko Unyu), rental cars (Yamae Rent-a-Lease), delicatessen production (Delica Friends, Sowa, Futaba Sangyo), food retail and distribution holdings (Minori Holdings, Kawachiya Genos, Fit), construction and housing materials (Nissoken, TATSUMI, Eiju Sangyo, Nishimoto Kensetsu Kogyo), and restaurant franchising. In August 2022 it acquired Japan Pizza Hut Corporation, bringing Pizza Hut operations in Japan into the group. The predecessor Yamaehisano listed on the Fukuoka Stock Exchange in 1974 and on the Tokyo Stock Exchange First Section in March 2020. With the 2021 establishment of the holding company, Yamae Group Holdings itself listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange First Section and the Fukuoka Stock Exchange. The group remains a prominent Kyushu-based enterprise, ranking among the region's top companies by revenue alongside firms such as Toyota Motor Kyushu. Its stated philosophy emphasizes contributing to society through business progress and realizing a sustainable society by connecting people, companies and communities.

History

The history of the Yamae Group begins with the establishment of Daiichi Nosan Kogyo Co., Ltd. in 1947. On 27 April 1950, that entity merged with Kobayashi Enatsu Shoten and was renamed Kabushiki Kaisha Enatsu Shoten, expanding into wholesale of fertilizer, alcoholic beverages, sugar and food sundries, as well as barley polishing. In 1955 the company changed its name to Enatsu Shoji Co., Ltd., and in 1966 to Yamae Shoji Co., Ltd. In 1968 Yamae Shoji relocated its head office to Fukuoka. In 1969 it merged with Kuno Shokuryo Co., Ltd. and adopted the name Yamaehisano Co., Ltd., the name under which the core operating company still trades. During the 1960s and 1970s the group diversified. Takachiho Soko Co., Ltd. was established in 1961 (renamed Takachiho Soko Unyu Co., Ltd. in 1972). In 1968 the petroleum division of Yamae Shoji was spun off as Yamae Sekiyu Co., Ltd. In 1974 Yamaehisano listed on the Fukuoka Stock Exchange. Takachiho Shuzo Co., Ltd. was established in 1976. In 1985 Linet Co., Ltd. was founded, followed by Friendly Delica Co., Ltd. in 1995 and Chikugo Delica Co., Ltd. in 1998. The group's role in Kyushu distribution deepened when it helped attract Seven-Eleven to the region, working jointly with the former Fukuoka Sogo Bank (later Fukuoka City Bank, now Nishi-Nippon City Bank). Yamaehisano became a central distribution partner for Seven-Eleven in Kyushu and also manufactures delicatessen products for the chain. Major restaurant chains such as Royal Host and Joyfull in Kyushu are also key customers. In the 2000s and 2010s the group continued to expand through subsidiaries and acquisitions. Kakuyama Co., Ltd. was established in 2004, Y-Tech Co., Ltd. in 2005, and Yamae Auto Co., Ltd. in 2006. In 2007 Orix Rent-a-Car Fukuoka Co., Ltd. was renamed Yamae Rent-a-Lease Co., Ltd.; it merged with Yamae Auto in 2008. Eco Foods Co., Ltd. was established in 2008, and San-Ei 21 Co., Ltd. in 2011; the two merged in 2014. In 2012 the group acquired Yamato Shokuhin Co., Ltd. and Maruzen Shoji Co., Ltd. as subsidiaries. In 2016 it acquired Inma Shoji Co., Ltd. In 2017 Delica Friends, Sowa and Futaba Sangyo integrated under a joint holding company, Delica SF Holdings Co., Ltd.; the group also acquired Minori Holdings Co., Ltd. and its subsidiaries (Kawachiya, Fit, Tokyo Fit, Kokuritsu Fit, R.N.S., Genos Group, Usami Shoten) and Kasugaya Co., Ltd. In 2018 it acquired Nissoken Co., Ltd. and TATSUMI Co., Ltd., and established Original Japan S.r.l. and YLO Co., Ltd. In 2019 it acquired HVC Holdings Co., Ltd. and its subsidiary Highvic Co., Ltd. In March 2020 Yamaehisano listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. That same year it acquired Kashima Giken Co., Ltd. and established Nissoken Build Co., Ltd. In 2021 it acquired Eiju Sangyo Co., Ltd. and its subsidiary Nishimoto Kensetsu Kogyo Co., Ltd. On 1 October 2021, Yamae Group Holdings Co., Ltd. was established as a holding company and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange First Section and the Fukuoka Stock Exchange. In August 2022 the group acquired Japan Pizza Hut Corporation and its subsidiaries (Japan Pizza Hut Co., Ltd., Pizza Hut Agency Co., Ltd., Phoenix Foods Co., Ltd.), adding restaurant operations to its portfolio. The group today operates a broad portfolio of consolidated subsidiaries spanning food wholesale, liquor, petroleum, logistics, rental cars, delicatessen manufacturing, food retail, construction materials and restaurant franchising.
