Wx3 Labs, LLC was founded by Kevin Lin and began releasing Flash games in 2008. The studio's early catalog included PlanetDefender, Lost Crypts, and the original Starcom web game, which were distributed as browser-based titles through 2013. These games laid the groundwork for the studio's later focus on action and exploration. In 2018, Wx3 Labs released its first PC title, Starcom: Nexus. The game is a space exploration action RPG in which the player commands a small survey vessel and must explore, fight, or befriend aliens while transforming the ship into a powerful battlecruiser. It became the studio's most popular title and established the Starcom brand. A sequel, Starcom: Unknown Space, was released into Early Access in 2022. The game begins with the player thrown through a newly uncovered wormhole into an unknown galaxy, where they must explore, fight or befriend aliens, and unravel the mystery of the forces that brought them there in order to find a way home. Starcom: Unknown Space graduated to a 1.0 release in September 2024 and is available on Steam. Wx3 Labs is based in Boston, Massachusetts, and operates as an independent, self-publishing studio. Kevin Lin serves as founder and owner. The studio continues to develop and support the Starcom series.
