Overview

Wuyistar (武夷星) is a Chinese tea company headquartered in Wuyishan, Fujian Province, founded in October 2001 by Mr. He Yixin. It describes itself as an agricultural industrialization key leading enterprise that integrates tea breeding and planting, processing, sales, research, tea tourism, cultural-creative development and tea-culture communication. Its core brand promise is expressed in the slogan "一心做好茶" (one heart for great tea), and it positions itself as a standard-bearer for Wuyi rock tea (yancha). The company is best known for Da Hong Pao (大红袍), the most famous Wuyi rock tea, along with Rou Gui (肉桂) and Shui Xian (水仙). Its product portfolio includes the Xing (星) series, Baigu (百谷) series, Jiangxin (匠心) series, Wuxiang Da Hong Pao (五香大红袍) vertical-strip packs, the Yun Cang (蕴藏) series, the Classic Old Taste (经典老味道) series, the Palace Tribute Tea (故宫贡茶) series and the Century Splendor (世纪风华) series. Wuyistar markets these as expressions of the "rock rhyme" (岩韵) characteristic of authentic Wuyi rock tea. Wuyistar emphasizes control of the full value chain from tea gardens to cup. It states that it manages more than 7,600 mu of tea gardens, including 1,744.5 mu of contiguous organic oolong tea gardens, described as the largest such block among Fujian tea enterprises. Its gardens include famous sites such as Jiulongke (九龙窠), the birthplace of the original Da Hong Pao mother trees, the Tea Research Institute site (茶科所, the remains of a Yuan-dynasty imperial tea garden), the Qishan tea germplasm resource nursery, the Jiulongshan ecological tea garden and several exceptional mountain plots (山场) along the Nine-Bend Stream (九曲溪). It also maintains a tea tree germplasm resource nursery of 69 mu preserving 3,290 accessions. As a member unit of the National Tea Standardization Committee, Wuyistar has participated in drafting international and national tea standards, including the international and national standards for oolong tea and national and local standards for tea bags and Wuyi black tea. On this basis it developed its own higher "Star Standard" (星标准), covering five stages — planting, processing, appraisal, brewing and tasting — with 99 quality standards, plus a taste-appraisal standard for authentic Wuyi rock tea. The brand has received honors including National Key Leading Enterprise in Agricultural Industrialization, National High-Tech Enterprise, China Well-Known Trademark, National Contract- and Credit-Abiding Enterprise, top-ten placement among China's top 100 tea enterprises for seven consecutive years, 25 consecutive years of leading Da Hong Pao sales, and National Quality Benchmark. It has also been designated as a tea for the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse and for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and won the Golden Camel Award for Chinese famous tea at the Centennial Expo and first place in a world famous tea competition. Wuyistar continues to operate as an active Chinese tea brand focused on Wuyi rock tea and tea culture.

History

Wuyistar Tea Co., Ltd. (武夷星茶业有限公司) was founded in October 2001 by Mr. He Yixin in Wuyishan, Fujian Province, the historic heartland of Wuyi rock tea (yancha). From the beginning the company adopted the guiding idea "一心做好茶" (one heart for great tea) and set the goal of becoming a flagship enterprise of China's tea industry. The company built its identity around Wuyi rock tea, especially Da Hong Pao, the most celebrated of the Wuyi oolong teas. It assembled a portfolio of tea gardens in and around the Wuyishan scenic area, including Jiulongke — the site of the original Da Hong Pao mother trees — the Tea Research Institute site (茶科所), which preserves the remains of a Yuan-dynasty imperial tea garden, the Qishan tea germplasm resource nursery, the Jiulongshan ecological tea garden, and numerous mountain plots (山场) along the Nine-Bend Stream. It reports managing more than 7,600 mu of tea gardens, including 1,744.5 mu of contiguous organic oolong tea gardens, and a 69-mu germplasm nursery preserving 3,290 accessions. Wuyistar invested in quality standards and research. As a member unit of the National Tea Standardization Committee, it took part in drafting the international and national standards for oolong tea and the national and local standards for tea bags and Wuyi black tea. It then created its own higher corporate "Star Standard" (星标准), covering five stages — planting, processing, appraisal, brewing and tasting — with 99 quality standards, together with a taste-appraisal standard for authentic Wuyi rock tea. The company also collaborates with academic institutions; its joint research with Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University was published in the international journal Food Chemistry. Over the years Wuyistar developed a broad product range, including the Xing series, the Baigu series, the Jiangxin series, the Wuxiang Da Hong Pao vertical-strip pack, the Yun Cang series, the Classic Old Taste series, the Palace Tribute Tea series and the Century Splendor series. It has been recognized as a National Key Leading Enterprise in Agricultural Industrialization, a National High-Tech Enterprise, a China Well-Known Trademark holder and a National Contract- and Credit-Abiding Enterprise, and has been named a National Quality Benchmark. It reports top-ten placement among China's top 100 tea enterprises for seven consecutive years and 25 consecutive years of leading Da Hong Pao sales. Its teas have been designated for the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and have won the Golden Camel Award for Chinese famous tea at the Centennial Expo and first place in a world famous tea competition. Wuyistar also promotes tea culture through tea tourism, cultural-creative products and events, and remains an active Chinese tea enterprise centered on Wuyi rock tea.
