Overview

WTHI-DT2 is the second digital television subchannel of WTHI-TV, a Terre Haute, Indiana, station whose signal serves communities in western Indiana and portions of eastern Illinois. Branded on air as MyFox10, the subchannel combines a primary affiliation with the Fox broadcast network and a secondary affiliation with MyNetworkTV. WTHI-DT2 also carries locally produced news from WTHI-TV, including the station’s branded Fox late-news operation. The subchannel was created during the expansion of digital multicast television in the Terre Haute market. Before it became a network outlet, WTHI-DT2 carried a continuous weather radar and NOAA Weather Radio audio service known as Storm Team 10 Fury Doppler. In October 2010, WTHI replaced that service with TheCoolTV, a music-video network carried by a number of LIN Media stations. Viewer dissatisfaction with the change led WTHI to restore the radar service on a newly designated third subchannel in November 2010, leaving the second digital stream available for a new programming strategy. On August 25, 2011, WTHI announced agreements to place both Fox and MyNetworkTV on its second digital subchannel. The affiliations began on September 1, 2011. The change followed WFXW-TV’s return to ABC, which ended that station’s Fox affiliation after a dispute involving its management partner, Nexstar Broadcasting Group, and Fox. WTHI-DT2 therefore became the Terre Haute market’s new over-the-air Fox outlet and also supplied the market’s first MyNetworkTV service. The dual-network arrangement gave Fox the subchannel’s principal evening schedule, while MyNetworkTV programs aired later on a delayed schedule. The launch also expanded WTHI’s local news presence. WTHI-TV introduced a half-hour weekday prime-time newscast for the subchannel, initially titled News 10 on Fox, at 10 p.m. Eastern Time, or 9 p.m. in the Central Time portion of the coverage area. Weekend editions were added in August 2012. A separate early-evening edition, News 10 at 7pm, was later discontinued in August 2017. WTHI-DT2 continues to function as a local news and network-programming service rather than as an independently owned station. Ownership of the parent station changed several times while WTHI-DT2 was operating. WTHI-TV was acquired by Emmis Communications from the Hulman family in 1998, transferred to LIN TV Corporation in 2005, and became part of Media General through that company’s 2014 merger with LIN Media. Nexstar’s acquisition of Media General in 2017 required the divestiture of WTHI-TV because of ownership restrictions in the Terre Haute market. Heartland Media acquired the station in 2017, Allen Media Broadcasting acquired it in 2020, and Gray Media completed its purchase of WTHI-TV in March 2026. These transactions changed corporate control of the parent station but did not alter WTHI-DT2’s basic identity as WTHI-TV’s Fox/MyNetworkTV multicast service.

History

WTHI-DT2 emerged from WTHI-TV’s digital multicast development in the late 2000s and early 2010s. The parent station initially used one of its digital streams for a continuous Storm Team 10 Fury Doppler radar presentation accompanied by NOAA Weather Radio audio. That service was briefly replaced by TheCoolTV in October 2010. Viewer response favored the weather service, so WTHI restored the radar operation on a separate third digital stream in November 2010. The second subchannel acquired its present network role in 2011. On August 25 of that year, WTHI-TV announced agreements with Fox and MyNetworkTV. Both services began on WTHI-DT2 on September 1, replacing the temporary music-video format. The change followed WFXW-TV’s decision to leave Fox and return to ABC. Because the Terre Haute market had previously lacked an over-the-air MyNetworkTV outlet, the new arrangement gave WTHI-DT2 a dual role: Fox served as its principal network affiliation, while MyNetworkTV programming filled a later time period on a tape-delayed basis. WTHI-TV launched a local prime-time newscast alongside the network change. News 10 on Fox initially aired for thirty minutes on weekday evenings at 10 p.m. Eastern Time, with the equivalent local schedule shown in the Central Time portion of the market. Weekend editions were added in August 2012. A separate News 10 at 7pm program was later introduced but was canceled in August 2017. The subchannel’s news schedule has remained substantially smaller than the parent station’s full local-news operation. WTHI-DT2 is not a separately owned television station. It is a branded program service transmitted through WTHI-TV’s digital multiplex and dependent on the parent station for facilities, local production, technical operations, and management. WTHI-TV’s ownership moved from the Hulman family to Emmis Communications, then to LIN TV, Media General, Heartland Media, Allen Media Broadcasting, and, in 2026, Gray Media. The changes reflect consolidation in the U.S. local television industry and the ownership constraints affecting the small Terre Haute market. Throughout those changes, WTHI-DT2 remained associated with the WTHI-TV channel 10 brand and with Fox programming in the market.
