Wonderlic is an assessment company founded by E.F. Wonderlic, who started the company out of a passion for solving major challenges in hiring and selection. Wonderlic was started by founder E.F. Wonderlic, who was passionate about solving major challenges in hiring and selection and believed data was the answer. In 1932, E.F. Wonderlic was Director of Personnel for Household Finance, where he was tasked with solving the company's two biggest hiring challenges: inconsistent hiring practices among hiring managers across the country, and identifying qualified entry-level candidates. Immersed in research, E.F. discovered several evaluation techniques used by employers that shared a common denominator — a gut feeling. He hypothesized that a candidate's general intelligence would be a better predictor of performance than a manager's intuition. Knowing that skills tests and interviews weren't enough to vet a candidate and that most general intelligence tests averaged well over three hours, E.F. set out to invent a more efficient vehicle for measuring cognitive ability. He proved his hypothesis and created the first short-form intelligence test. The company's official history page is titled 'Solving Hiring Since 1937.'
