Overview

Wolfpack Entertainment, also known as WPE Berlin, is a German music company founded in August 2008 by Danny Bokelmann, who is also active as the rapper D-Bo. Based in Berlin, the company operates as an artist management firm, a record label and a music publisher, and also offers consulting, distribution, merchandise and booking services. Its releases are primarily rooted in hip-hop, with stylistic excursions into pop, dubstep, alternative rap and electro. The label emerged from Bokelmann's earlier experience at ersguterjunge, a label he co-founded with Bushido in 2004 and left in 2008. Wolfpack Entertainment's first release was the mixtape Therapie vor dem Album by RAF Camora. The label's first chart entry came with D-Bo's album Die Lüge der Freiheit, which reached No. 89 in Germany. Its most commercially successful album to date is Nero by Vega, which peaked at No. 2 in the German charts in early 2013. Austrian rappers such as Nazar and Chakuza also brought chart success in Austria. Over the years Wolfpack Entertainment has built a family of sub-labels, including Freunde von Niemand (2012, with Vega), Indipendenza (2013, led by RAF 3.0), MacherMusik (2014, led by Blut&Kasse), Kopfkino (2015, with Pilz) and NewDEF (associated with Damion Davis). The company has signed or worked with artists such as Jalil, Marc Reis, PA Sports, KC Rebell, Bizzy Montana, Liquit Walker, Joshi Mizu, Eazy, Garma Kang, Antifuchs, Niqo Nuevo, Laidback Leo and MVRVIN. Distribution partners have included Soulfood for physical releases and Kontor New Media for digital distribution, and a publishing deal was signed with EMI Music Publishing in March 2012. Wolfpack Entertainment describes itself as a family built on tolerance, honesty and fairness, and takes pride in gold and platinum awards, No. 1 albums and other accolades. The company remains privately owned and active, with a focus on developing artists and managing their careers across music and related fields.

History

Wolfpack Entertainment was founded on 1 January 2008 by Danny Bokelmann, a rapper known as D-Bo. The idea for the platform had already emerged in 1998. Bokelmann had previously co-founded the label ersguterjunge with Bushido in 2004 and worked there until 2008. For Wolfpack Entertainment, he secured Soulfood as a distribution partner and Kontor New Media for digital distribution. The label primarily uses band takeover contracts (Bandübernahmeverträge), signing deals for albums by artists such as Jalil, Marc Reis, PA Sports, KC Rebell and Bizzy Montana. The first release was the mixtape Therapie vor dem Album by RAF Camora. The label's first chart placement came with D-Bo's album Die Lüge der Freiheit, which reached No. 89 in Germany. Releases by Austrian rappers Nazar and Chakuza also entered the Austrian charts. The most successful album to date is Nero by Vega, which reached No. 2 in the German charts in early 2013. In July 2012, Wolfpack Entertainment entered a label deal with Vega's platform Freunde von Niemand. Hadi El-Dor served as managing director of the sub-label. Alongside Vega, rappers Bizzy Montana, Timeless and Bosca, as well as producers Johnny Pepp, Cristalbeats and Jumpa-Beatz, were to release albums through Freunde von Niemand. In March 2012, the label had already signed a publishing deal with EMI Music Publishing. On 31 August, the sampler Willkommen im Niemandsland became the sub-label's first release. In 2013, another sub-label, Indipendenza, was founded under the leadership of RAF 3.0. Joshi Mizu was the first artist signed to the independent label; his album Zu!Gabe was Indipendenza's first release in early March 2013. In May 2013, rapper Liquit Walker signed an artist contract with Wolfpack Entertainment after previously being with Freunde von Niemand, where he had released his album Unter Wölfen. In August 2014, Austrian rapper Nazar released his album Camouflage with Wolfpack Entertainment, which stayed at No. 2 in the German charts for three weeks. MacherMusik was founded in 2014 as another sub-label under the leadership of German hip-hop artist Blut&Kasse. Its album 100 Prozent Macher, produced with rapper Pedaz, was the sub-label's first release in August. In 2015, Hamburg artist Pilz founded the sub-label Kopfkino together with Wolfpack Entertainment and released her debut album Beef in June. Damion Davis released his album Forever Ying in 2016 through NewDEF, which also considers itself a sub-label of Wolfpack Entertainment. Chakuza and Bizzy Montana released the collaboration album Blackout 2 in April 2017, Chakuza's second release on Wolfpack Entertainment. Shortly afterwards, the two rappers released the joint Sommerdepression EP. In the same year, artist Eazy released his album Black Tape. In 2018, Berlin rapper Garma Kang released several singles through Wolfpack Entertainment. Antifuchs also released her debut album Stola. After its release, Antifuchs published several singles between 2018 and 2019. Chakuza also brought out a new installment of his album series, Suchen & Zerstören 3. In 2018, R&B singer Niqo Nuevo signed a management contract with Wolfpack Entertainment and released his first album Eastside Junge in April 2019. Since 2019, Wolfpack Entertainment has also taken on various management activities for artists such as Laidback Leo and MVRVIN.
