Overview
Wilhelm Stoll Maschinenfabrik GmbH, commonly known by its STOLL brand, is a German agricultural machinery manufacturer specializing in tractor front loaders and front loader attachments. The company was founded in 1878 in Luckenwalde near Berlin and today is headquartered in Lengede-Broistedt in Lower Saxony. It is one of the leading front loader manufacturers in Europe and describes itself as the largest tractor front loader manufacturer in Germany, claiming that more than every second front loader in Germany is a STOLL front loader. STOLL's product range focuses on front loaders and front loader tools, including silage extraction tools, bale grabs, dozer and grab buckets, as well as various fork and forestry tools. The company produces front loaders and tools in Germany and the Czech Republic. Its product lines include STOLL ProfiLine, STOLL Solid, STOLL CompactLine, and ISOBUS-connected front loaders. STOLL is known for its drive-in front loader system, which allows a loader to be attached or detached from a tractor within about two minutes without major effort. Since 1983, STOLL has been the first front loader manufacturer to build such drive-in front loaders. The company has a long history. Founded in 1878, it was based in Torgau between 1906 and 1945. After the division of Germany, the business was rebuilt in Broistedt in Lower Saxony from 1946. It began with the development and production of sugar beet harvesters and entered front loader production in 1965. In 1997, the Danish Freudendahl Invest A/S acquired an initial 20% stake and took over the entire company two years later. In 2013, after Freudendahl Invest filed for insolvency in November 2012, the German financial investor Deutsche Mittelstand Beteiligungen (DMB) from Hamburg acquired its shares. In July 2021, STOLL was taken over by Agrostroj Pelhřimov, the largest Czech agricultural machinery manufacturer. In December 2024, the Stoll Polska site in Słupsk and Metec in Irxleben were closed and production was relocated to the headquarters of Stoll and Agrostroj. STOLL sells its products through a broad dealer network, with around 3,000 dealers in Germany and 5,000 dealers worldwide. The company's revenue is approximately 65.64 million euros. STOLL front loaders are compatible with major tractor brands such as Case, Claas, Deutz-Fahr, Fendt, John Deere, Kubota, Massey Ferguson, and New Holland, thanks to its specially developed mounting system that allows a new loader to be used on almost all tractor types regardless of the series' year of construction.
History
The Wilhelm Stoll Maschinenfabrik GmbH was founded in 1878 as W. Stoll Maschinenfabrik GmbH in Luckenwalde near Berlin. Between 1906 and 1945, the company was headquartered in Torgau. After the division of Germany, the business was rebuilt in Broistedt in Lower Saxony from 1946. At the new location, the company began with the development and production of sugar beet harvesters and entered the production of front loaders in 1965. As the first front loader manufacturer, Stoll has been building drive-in front loaders since 1983, which can be separated from the tractor within about two minutes without major effort. In 1997, the Danish Freudendahl Invest A/S initially acquired 20% of the shares in Wilhelm Stoll Maschinenfabrik GmbH and two years later took over the entire company. As a result, the production of sugar beet harvesters and hay machines at the Broistedt site was discontinued. With the FS/FZ front loader series, the design of front loaders has been further simplified since 2007: without sacrificing stability, control rods and hydraulic lines are routed inside the loader arms. After Freudendahl Invest filed for insolvency in November 2012, a financial investor, Deutsche Mittelstand Beteiligungen (DMB) from Hamburg, acquired its shares at the beginning of 2013 and has been the owner since then. In July 2021, Stoll was taken over by the largest Czech agricultural machinery manufacturer, Agrostroj Pelhřimov. In December 2024, the Stoll Polska site in Słupsk and Metec in Irxleben were closed and production was relocated to the headquarters of Stoll and Agrostroj. Under the STOLL brand, front loaders and front loader tools are produced; revenue is approximately 65.64 million euros. In addition to front loaders, tools for silage extraction, bale grabs, dozer and grab buckets, as well as various fork and forestry tools are manufactured. Front loaders and tools are produced in Germany and the Czech Republic.
