Overview
Wilhelm Faber is the founding name and historical brand of a German construction business established in 1909 in Schlierschied in the Hunsrück region. Its founder, Wilhelm Faber (1886–1951), initially concentrated on machine work, contract threshing and firewood cutting, before expanding into road construction in 1919. That move set the company on a path of continuous growth across road and civil engineering. After Wilhelm Faber's death, his sons Hermann and Karl continued the business in Schlierschied. A branch was established in Alzey in 1963 under Hermann Faber's management, and in 1979 the company was divided between the two brothers, each developing a modern construction firm with their sons in the fields of civil and road engineering. A further branch followed in 1991 in Kesselsdorf near Dresden. Over the years the Alzey-based group grew into a general contractor active not only in building construction, civil engineering, road construction and water technology, but also in raw materials extraction, production of building materials of all kinds and their trade. In 2010 the French construction group Eiffage acquired the company group. In 2016 the eastern operations of Faber Bau GmbH were spun off into the newly founded Faber Infra-Bau GmbH based in Wilsdruff near Dresden. In 2017 Faber Straßen- und Tiefbau GmbH in Schlierschied was merged into Faber Bau GmbH Alzey and has since been run as a branch of Faber Bau GmbH Alzey. In November 2020 Faber Bau GmbH was renamed Eiffage Infra-Südwest GmbH. The brand thus survives within Eiffage's German infrastructure operations, with the original Wilhelm Faber name retained in the corporate history.
