Last updated September 1, 2026
Overview
Whir is a proximity-based discovery platform that puts local business deals on a map, allowing nearby customers to find them without following the business. It was founded by Blake Coffee and Lucas Kern, and launched in Kansas City in mid-2024, later expanding to Lawrence and Overland Park.
History
Whir was founded by Blake Coffee and Lucas Kern. The idea came in 2023 when two founders in Kansas City noticed a gap — great local deals that nobody outside walking distance ever saw. In early 2024, they built the first version of Whir and tested it with local businesses. In mid-2024, Whir launched in Kansas City with a handful of early partners. In late 2024, it expanded to Lawrence and Overland Park, with hundreds of deals posted and thousands of customers engaged. In 2025, Whir is scaling with new analytics tools, scheduling features, and plans to bring Whir to cities across the country.
