Overview
Wetmaster Co., Ltd. is a Japanese manufacturer specialising in commercial and industrial humidifiers and related air-conditioning equipment. Based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, the company describes itself as a leading company in the field of commercial and industrial humidifiers that add moisture to air and create comfortable spaces. Its humidification technology is used in office buildings, commercial facilities, airports, schools, hospitals and welfare facilities for the elderly, and the company frames its mission as making the spaces where many people gather healthy and comfortable. The company was founded in 1969 as Nihon Kashi-ki Seizō K.K. (Japan Humidifier Manufacturing Co., Ltd.) after successfully commercialising a high-pressure spray-type humidifier. It changed its name to the current Wetmaster Co., Ltd. in 1979, on the occasion of its tenth anniversary. Over the following decades it developed a broad range of humidification technologies, including ultrasonic humidifiers (1974), infrared steam humidifiers and high-purity steam humidifiers for clean rooms (1983), the ceiling-recessed rotary evaporative "Tenmai" humidifier (1986), electrode steam humidifiers imported from Germany's Stulz (1988), various drip-permeation evaporative humidifiers (1990), indirect steam humidifiers (1991), electric-heater steam humidifiers (2004) and low-temperature steam spray devices (2002). It also diversified into related air-handling products such as the Aero Q air-volume management system (1986), the high-precision airflow sensor "New Aero Eye" (1998), the differential-pressure composite flow meter and calorimeter "COP EYE" (2003) and artificial snow-making equipment under the "Yukigeshiki" (Snowscape) series (2001). Wetmaster operates a domestic network of branches and sales offices, including Osaka (1975), Fukuoka (1981), Sendai (1984) and Nagoya (1987), and has pursued overseas business since the mid-1980s, when it began direct overseas transactions and a sales tie-up with Germany's Stulz. In 1996 it signed a distributor agreement in China and began selling humidifiers nationwide under the "Nihon Shio" (日本湿王) brand, with Beijing as a key base. The company has held ISO 9001 certification since 1999 and ISO 14001 since 2004, and opened a Technical Centre (now the R&D Centre) in Tokorozawa, Saitama in 2007. In December 2024 it announced a corporate logo refresh and the opening of its R&D Centre, as well as a change of representative director and president. The company's website lists ongoing product news, maintenance notices and downloads, and in 2025 it reported and responded to a ransomware attack.
History
Wetmaster Co., Ltd. traces its origins to 1969, when the successful commercialisation of a high-pressure spray-type humidifier led to the establishment of Nihon Kashi-ki Seizō K.K. (Japan Humidifier Manufacturing Co., Ltd.). The company was an early mover in Japanese humidification technology: in 1974 it developed and began selling ultrasonic humidifiers ahead of the industry, and in 1975 it opened an Osaka branch as a base for technical sales and after-sales service in western Japan. In 1979, marking its tenth anniversary, the company changed its name to the current Wetmaster Co., Ltd. The 1980s were a period of geographic and technological expansion. A Fukuoka sales office was opened in 1981 for the Kyushu region, and in 1983 the head-office building was completed (now the Tokyo Head Office Building No. 2 / Knowledge Centre); that same year the company developed infrared steam humidifiers and high-purity steam humidifiers for clean rooms. In 1984 it completed a comprehensive air-conditioning facility for humidifier testing, intended to solve humidification problems in the air-conditioning field, and opened a Sendai sales office for the Tohoku region. In 1985 it began direct overseas transactions, forming a sales tie-up with Germany's Stulz and starting humidifier exports. In 1986 it partially relocated head-office functions to a new head-office building and developed two important product lines: the Tenmai humidifier, a ceiling-recessed cassette-type rotary evaporative humidifier, and the Aero Q system, a comprehensive air-volume management system for air-conditioning duct networks. In 1987 it opened a Nagoya sales office for the Chubu region and developed a floor-standing rotary evaporative humidifier jointly with NTT for delivery to telecommunications equipment rooms. In 1988 it began importing and selling electrode steam humidifiers from Stulz. The 1990s brought further product development and internationalisation. In 1990 the company received a new-product and new-technology development subsidy from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and it developed various drip-permeation evaporative humidifiers, including ceiling-suspended types and units built into packaged air conditioners. In 1991 it developed an indirect steam humidifier using a new steam-based method. In 1996 it concluded a distributor agreement with Beijing Wuxing Electronic Engineering Equipment Company (now Beijing Fuyutai Science and Trade Co., Ltd.) and began selling various humidifiers across China under the "Nihon Shio" (日本湿王) brand, with Beijing as the main base. In 1998 it became the Japanese general distributor for Stulz's high-sensible-heat precision air conditioners (modular air conditioners / mini-space air conditioners) and developed the New Aero Eye, a high-precision airflow sensor with rectifying function. In 1999 the Tokyo head office obtained ISO 9001:1994 certification covering the design, manufacture and related services of commercial humidification equipment. The 2000s continued the pattern of imports, new categories and quality/environmental certification. In 2001 the company began importing and selling electric-heater steam humidifiers from Stulz and developed its first artificial snow-making products, the Yukigeshiki Snow Cabin and Yukigeshiki Space Free. In 2002 it developed a steam spray device for low-temperature humidification, for installation in air-conditioning equipment and ducts (now the three-dimensional diffusion steam spray device / Steam Blender). In 2003, building on its long experience with gas flow sensors, it developed the differential-pressure composite flow meter and calorimeter COP EYE for energy-saving water flow and heat measurement. In 2004 it obtained ISO 14001:1996 certification covering the development, manufacture, sale and service of humidifiers, flow meters and artificial snow-making equipment, and also developed electric-heater steam humidifiers. In 2007 it opened a Technical Centre (now the R&D Centre) in Tokorozawa, Saitama, as a base for research, product development and product verification. In 2010 it received various excellent-company awards, including the 10th Shinjuku Ikikiki Management Award Grand Prize and Shinjuku Ward Mayor's Award in the Heisei 21 Shinjuku Ward excellent-company commendation, and the highest award in the Tokyo Credit Association's Heisei 21 excellent-company commendation. In the 2020s the company continued to update its product range and operations. In December 2024 it announced a corporate logo refresh and the opening of its R&D Centre, along with a change of representative director and president. In 2025 it reported a ransomware attack and its response measures, and in 2026 it reported recovery from the incident. Product news in 2025 and 2026 included the launch of the Tenmai humidifier VCK type with automatic water and air volume control, the New Aero Meter NAM type for the New Aero Eye, and the publication of BIM data (Revit families) for humidifiers.
