Overview
Wercker was a Netherlands-founded software brand that provided cloud-based continuous integration and continuous delivery tools for developers working on web applications and microservices. The service connected source-code repositories, such as GitHub and Bitbucket, with cloud hosting and infrastructure platforms, including Amazon Web Services, Heroku, and Rackspace. When a developer committed code, Wercker could retrieve the change, build it in an isolated container, run automated tests, and report whether the build or deployment succeeded. History
Wercker emerged in 2012 from work by Hernandez van Leuffen on containers and automatic resource provisioning. The technology originated as a thesis project at the University of San Francisco, while NexusLabs, an Amsterdam- and MIT-linked foundation, helped the startup connect with United States venture investors.
