Overview
Wemajor (Korean: 위메이저) is a non-profit private organization (NPO) registered under the Seoul Metropolitan Government that sends university students into middle and high schools to give lectures about academic majors and career paths. It was founded in 2010 as a club at Seoul National University called H2, and in September 2011 it was reorganized into a university-student alliance volunteer group under the name Wemajor. The organization is based in Mapo-gu, Seoul, and its stated mission is to reduce the social cost of students choosing the wrong major by providing vivid, first-hand information about what studying each field is actually like. The core activity is the school-visit lecture program (전공강연), in which teams of university students visit a school and present on their majors, followed by mentoring and Q&A. Wemajor also runs lecture concerts, career fairs, and mentoring at university admissions events, often in partnership with district offices and education offices. According to its website, by the time of the homepage snapshot it had delivered 869 lectures to 203,032 students across 228 schools and 19 organizations. Wemajor is not a commercial company; it is a civil-society organization.
