Overview

Weinbau und Heuriger Wolff is a family-owned winery and traditional Viennese Heuriger (tavern) located at Rathstraße 46 in Vienna's 19th district, in the wine-growing area of Neustift am Walde. The business combines estate viticulture with a Buschenschank-style tavern, offering guests wines produced exclusively from the family's own vineyards in Neustift am Walde, Sievering, Grinzing and Nußdorf, alongside a buffet of typical Wiener Küche dishes and homemade sweets. The Wolff family traces its maternal lineage back to 1609, and the paternal side descends from a Sudetenland confectioner family that relocated to Neustift am Walde in 1949 and acquired a Konditorei at Rathstraße 46. Today the operation is led by cellar master Mag. Peter Wolff together with his sister Renate Wolff and her children Katharina, Elisabeth and Gerhard Wolff Junior. The Heuriger is known for its rustic Stüberl with wood-fired tiled stoves, candlelight, a sheltered courtyard and terrace garden, and a direct path through the vineyards to the Weinwanderweg. It is open daily from 11:30 to midnight, including holidays, and also hosts weddings and private events.

History

The history of the Wolff family business is deeply rooted in Viennese wine culture. According to the family's own account, the maternal lineage can be traced back to 1609, and after the second Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683, the ancestors appear in the first complete register of houses and homeowners from 1749. These families lived from viticulture and livestock farming, selling fruit, vegetables and table grapes of the 'Gutedel' variety, which thrived particularly well in Neustift, in the nearby 'Wienerstadt'. The paternal ancestors came from a confectioner family in the Sudetenland who had to leave their homeland in 1945. In 1949 the family settled in Neustift am Walde and acquired a Konditorei (pastry shop) at Rathstraße 46. Older Heuriger visitors may still remember Herr Wolff walking from Heuriger to Heuriger each evening with a large cup of sweets, offering the sweet 'little delicacies' to guests. Even today, the homemade Mehlspeisen and 'kleine Köstlichkeiten' are prepared according to family recipes. Today, cellar master Mag. Peter Wolff leads the family businesses in cooperation with his sister, cellar master and tourism management expert Renate Wolff, as well as her children Katharina Wolff, Elisabeth Wolff and Gerhard Wolff Junior. Great importance has always been placed on tradition and quality in food and drink. The Buschenschank has direct access through the vineyards to the Weinwanderweg in Mitterwurzergasse. To enjoy the first rays of sun in spring or a sunny afternoon outdoors in autumn, 'Wolff im Weingarten' at Mitterwurzergasse in the middle of the vineyards is available.
