It was founded in March 2008 by Stephan Watterott as a sole proprietorship in Hausen (Thuringia, Germany), with the aim of offering its own microcontroller boards and special hard-to-source development components. History

Watterott electronic was founded in March 2008 by Stephan Watterott as a sole proprietorship in Hausen (Thuringia, Germany). The goal was to offer its own microcontroller boards and special hard-to-source development components. In the first months, a roughly 20 m² room was sufficient for office, manufacturing, storage and shipping. The product range and shipping volume grew gradually. By mid-2010 the space was no longer sufficient, and at the end of that year, after major renovation work, the company moved to a new location in Leinefelde. Since then the assortment has continued to grow and its own manufacturing at the Leinefelde site has been constantly expanded.
