Overview

WASH HOUSE CO., LTD. (WASHハウス株式会社) is a Japanese coin laundry chain operator headquartered in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture. It is the largest company in Japan's coin laundry industry. The company was founded in 2001 as KDM Corporation by Yasutaka Kodama, a former securities company employee, and opened its first two stores in Miyazaki City in 2002. It changed its name to WASH HOUSE CO., LTD. in 2005 and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers market and Fukuoka Stock Exchange Q-Board in 2016. WASH House operates a franchise system in which all stores are monitored 24 hours a day by headquarters staff via cameras, and cleaning and customer service are handled by WASH House itself, so franchisees essentially only provide capital. As of September 2019, the chain had 607 stores across Japan, of which 443 were in the Kyushu region. The company holds business model patents for its coin laundry management system, and its washing machines and dryers are custom-built by Sanyo Electric and NTT Data with remote operation capabilities. WASH House stores offer large-capacity washing machines (up to 22 kg), dryers (up to 25 kg), washer-dryers, sneaker washers, and spot removers. Prices range from about 300 yen for a 7 kg wash to 700–1,000 yen for a 22 kg wash, with drying at 100 yen per 5–10 minutes. The company emphasizes hygiene, with dedicated staff cleaning daily, free drum cleaning before use, and daily sterilization of machines. A 24/7 call center (0120-545-696) provides remote support and advice. The WASH House app enables cashless payment and campaigns. The company has expanded internationally, establishing WASHHOUSE (Thailand) CO., LTD. in June 2019 and WASHHOUSE (Shandong) CO., LTD. in Shandong Province, China, in December 2019. It also owns a laundry truck that provides laundry support in disaster-affected areas, such as after the large fire in Oita City's Saganoseki in November 2025. WASH House has a mascot family called "WASH Family" with characters designed in the style of American animation: WASH Obasan (grandmother), Robe (mother), Futon (father), Cotton (baby son), and Capet (daughter).

History

In 2002, the company opened its first two WASH House stores (Jogasaki and Oshimadori) simultaneously in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture. According to Kodama, opening two stores at once was intended to create the impression of a large capital backing. In 2003, the company established the National Coin Laundry Management Association (有限責任中間法人全国コインランドリー管理業協会) to improve the industry's image. In 2004, it obtained a business model patent for its coin laundry management system (Patent No. 3520449). In 2005, the company changed its name to WASH HOUSE CO., LTD. In 2008, it obtained another business model patent (Patent No. 4172043). In 2010, it obtained another business model patent (Patent No. 4441796). In 2014, it opened its 200th store. In 2016, it listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers market and the Fukuoka Stock Exchange Q-Board market. In June 2019, it established WASHHOUSE (Thailand) CO., LTD. in Thailand, and in December 2019, it established WASHHOUSE (Shandong) CO., LTD. in Shandong Province, China, in partnership with Shandong Xiaoya Intelligent Technology Development. As of September 2019, the chain had 607 stores across Japan, with 443 in Kyushu.
