Overview

Warbud S.A. is one of Poland's largest construction companies, headquartered in Warsaw. Founded in 1989 by Włodzimierz Włodarczyk, it has grown from a local builder into a national general contractor and, since the 1990s, has been part of the French VINCI group through VINCI Construction. The company is a market leader in the construction of shopping centres, office buildings and medical facilities, and it also executes major infrastructure and public building projects. Warbud's history began with its first large commission, the Mercure Hotel in Warsaw in 1991. After becoming a joint-stock company in 1992, it attracted investment from the French firm CBC, which later became part of VINCI Construction. Over the decades, Warbud has completed more than 600 projects, including the pylon of the Świętokrzyski Bridge in Warsaw, metro stations, airports, hospitals, museums and concert halls. The company operates through regional structures and segment divisions covering civil engineering, specialist construction and hospital construction. Today Warbud employs over 1,300 people and continues to secure high-profile contracts, such as the recent medical project in Czeladź and the modern sports complex for the Military University of Land Forces in Wrocław. Its parent company, VINCI Construction, is the largest French firm in construction and public works and a significant global player. Warbud also runs a foundation and engages in PPP (public-private partnership) projects, reinforcing its position as a key player in Poland's built environment.

History

Warbud S.A. was founded in 1989 by Włodzimierz Włodarczyk (born 1954), who led the company as managing director and later as chairman until 2016. The company's first major contract came in 1991 with the construction of a Mercure hotel in Warsaw. In the same year, talks began with a potential investor, the French company CBC. After Warbud was transformed into a joint-stock company in 1992, CBC became the majority shareholder. CBC was later acquired by Vinci Construction, a subsidiary of the French Vinci group, making Warbud part of one of the world's largest construction conglomerates. In 1995, Warbud's first contract as a general contractor was the construction of an office building for Polish Telecom in the Żoliborz district of Warsaw. In 2004, the company established regional structures to expand its nationwide operations and reorganised into segment areas: civil engineering, specialist construction and hospital construction. Since 1992, Warbud has completed over 600 construction projects, including the prestigious erection of the pylon of the Świętokrzyski Bridge in Warsaw. In February 2016, the company celebrated its 25th anniversary with 1,700 guests at the Expo XXI Center in Warsaw. As of 2025, Warbud employed over 1,300 people. Warbud has been responsible for numerous landmark projects across Poland, such as the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic in Białystok, metro stations A15 and A19 of the Warsaw Metro, Lech Wałęsa Airport in Gdańsk, the Medicover Hospital in Miasteczko Wilanów, the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, Kozminski University in Warsaw, the Temple of Divine Providence in Warsaw, the headquarters of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, the renovation of the Europejski Hotel in Warsaw, the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, the completion of Złota 44 in Warsaw, the S2 expressway in Warsaw, the Skyliner in Warsaw, the Mennica Legacy Tower in Warsaw, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, and the International Congress Centre in Katowice.
