Walker Corporation is an Australian property development company with a portfolio spanning urban regeneration, mixed-use precincts, residential communities, commercial buildings, retail centres, industrial estates and resort developments. The business began in 1964 when Lang Walker and Alec Walker established an earthmoving and civil engineering operation. In 1972, Lang Walker broadened the business into property development through The Walker Group, creating the foundation for the company’s later focus on major real-estate projects. Walker Corporation became a publicly listed company on the Australian Securities Exchange in 1994. In 1999, Lang Walker sold his shares in Walker Corporation to Australand, now known as Frasers Property, while retaining the right to reuse the Walker Corporation name after January 2003. The proposed redevelopment of Toondah Harbour in Queensland was selected in 2014 as a preferred partnership project involving the Queensland Government and Redland City Council. The proposal became controversial because parts of the proposed development area overlapped a Ramsar-listed wetland. Walker Corporation later revised the plans, including a reduction in the proposed reclamation area, and submitted an Environmental Impact Statement in 2022 for government examination following public consultation. Its long-time co-founder Lang Walker died on 27 January 2024 at the age of 78, after which the business continued as a Walker-branded property development group.

Citiswich Business Park in Ipswich was planned as a large industrial estate, while Festival Plaza and Festival Tower in Adelaide combined commercial, retail and public-square components. Main Drive Kew in Melbourne was a residential redevelopment of the former Kew Cottages site undertaken with the Victorian Government. The project later became associated with disputes involving purchasers, consultants and development participants. Walker Corporation expanded internationally through projects in Malaysia and Fiji. Kokomo Private Island in Fiji was developed as a high-end island resort with villas and private residences. Toondah Harbour became one of the company’s most closely scrutinized proposals. Walker Corporation was selected in 2014 as the preferred private-sector partner for the redevelopment of a 67-hectare site in Redland City, Queensland. The project generated controversy because parts of the proposed area overlapped a Ramsar-listed wetland. In 2016, the company used a meeting with Federal Environment and Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg to advocate changes to the Ramsar boundary, characterizing the issue as one of urgent national interest. Revised plans released in 2018 reduced the proposed reclamation area by 12 hectares and reduced the anticipated impact on Cassim Island. An Environmental Impact Statement was released in 2022 and examined by government after public consultation. As of October 2021, Walker Corporation stated that it was developing projects with an aggregate value exceeding A$30 billion across Australia and Malaysia. This was a development-pipeline figure, not a measure of annual sales or corporate valuation. Lang Walker died on 27 January 2024, aged 78. Walker Corporation remains a privately owned property development company operating under the Walker name.
