History

Wagener & Simon WASI was founded in 1961 by Emil Wagener and Werner Simon in Wuppertal, Germany, as a company for stainless steel connection elements, initially marketing products under the names 'WASI A2' and 'WASI A4'. The location in Wuppertal proved optimal due to its proximity to the small ironware and metal processing industries and wire drawing mills, which were decisive during the founding era. In 1978, the company became part of the Würth Group, a global leader in fastening and assembly materials. In 1992, WASI established its Special Sales Division, focusing on mounting technology and height adjustment elements. The product range expanded in 1997 with the addition of the Maritim division, offering special stainless steel fasteners for water sports, boating, and shipping. International expansion began in 1998 with WASI Spain, followed by WASI Austria in 2000. In 2001, an automated high-bay warehouse was commissioned at the Wuppertal-Heckinghausen site. The following years saw the creation of new companies in Denmark, Sweden, Croatia, and China (2002), Serbia (2003), Romania (2004), Bulgaria (2005), and Poland (2006). In 2007, WASI added the SOLAR division, providing mounting solutions made of stainless steel and aluminum for photovoltaic roof constructions. Logistics were further expanded in 2009 with the opening of a second site in Wuppertal-Ronsdorf. In 2014, the business units WASI Industrie and WASI Handel were established to better serve industrial and trade customers. In 2017, the company was renamed WASI GmbH and consolidated its operations into a single location in Ronsdorf by expanding the logistics center and adding an administration building. This move also integrated direct connections to external locations in Spain, Denmark, and Belgium. Today, WASI continues to operate as a family-owned business within the Würth Group, employing around 180 experts. It maintains a comprehensive inventory of over 21,000 products and emphasizes quality, service, and sustainability. The company's history reflects a consistent strategy of growth, internationalization, and adaptation to market needs, solidifying its position as a leading supplier of stainless steel connection technology.
