Jacksonville woman sues VyStar Credit Union over $42K impersonation scam
Mary E. Maier sued VyStar Credit Union in U.S. District Court in Jacksonville on Aug. 14, alleging the credit union failed to investigate and reimburse about $42,000 stolen from her accounts after fraudsters impersonated the bank, obtained her debit card and drained her checking, money market and savings accounts between Nov. 13 and Nov. 20, 2025. The suit alleges VyStar disabled security controls for marketing reasons, failed to apply fraud alerts, denied her error claim without the written explanation required under federal rules, and failed to investigate or respond within the time required by the Electronic Fund Transfer Act and Regulation E. Maier seeks actual and statutory damages, attorneys' fees and treble damages.
