Overview
VTC Video Tele Carnia (also styled VTC - VideoTeleCarnia) is a private Italian local television channel based in Treppo Ligosullo, in the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Its headquarters are located at via 4 Novembre n.5. The channel was founded in 1980 by Mario De Cillia and originally covered only part of the Valle del But. With the arrival of digital terrestrial television (DTT), from 19 April 2011 it extended its signal across the whole region and became receivable also in parts of the Slovenian and Croatian Istrian coast and in some border areas of the Veneto region. The network's main mission is generalist and aimed at everyone, focused on the promotion, enhancement and dissemination of Carnic artistic and cultural events. About 70% of its programmes are produced in Friulian language and Carnic dialect, with the remainder in Italian. VTC VideoTeleCarnia is a content provider for the Udine-based broadcaster TeleFriuli and is hosted by the latter in its own DTT multiplex on channel 690. From 1 March 2022, after more than 40 years of activity in favour of the Carnic territory, the TV channel no longer broadcasts autonomously over the air, as the number of television frequencies for the diffusion of the regional DTT signal had decreased. The small broadcaster continues to distribute its programmes via streaming through its own website, with the exception of a daily evening window of a couple of hours within the programming of the Monfalcone-based TeleAntenna NM, broadcast on channel 80 of digital terrestrial television. Its programming includes live streaming, local TV shows such as "TVDream Local TV", "La CJANIVE" with Celestino Vezzi, Friulian lessons with Dr. Quaglia, and content for cyclists and others about the climbs of Friuli narrated by the creator of "Pendenze Pericolose". The channel remains a cultural reference point for the Carnic community and the Friulian-speaking audience.
History
VTC Video Tele Carnia was founded in 1980 by Mario De Cillia. Initially, the broadcaster covered only part of the Valle del But, a valley in the Carnic Alps in the province of Udine, Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Its headquarters were established at via 4 Novembre n.5 in Treppo Ligosullo. For decades, the channel served the local Carnic community, producing generalist programming aimed at a broad audience. Its core mission was the promotion, enhancement and dissemination of Carnic artistic and cultural events. A distinctive feature was its linguistic policy: about 70% of its programmes were produced in Friulian language and Carnic dialect, with the remaining 30% in Italian, reflecting the bilingual identity of the region. A major turning point came with the transition to digital terrestrial television (DTT). From 19 April 2011, VTC extended its signal across the entire Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. The channel also became receivable in parts of the Slovenian and Croatian Istrian coast and in some border areas of the Veneto region, significantly expanding its potential audience beyond the original valley. VTC VideoTeleCarnia also acted as a content provider for the Udine-based broadcaster TeleFriuli, and was hosted by TeleFriuli in its own DTT multiplex on channel 690. This partnership allowed the small station to maintain a presence on the digital terrestrial platform. However, the Italian television landscape underwent significant frequency reorganisations, and the number of television frequencies available for the diffusion of the regional DTT signal decreased. As a consequence, from 1 March 2022, after more than 40 years of autonomous over-the-air broadcasting in favour of the Carnic territory, VTC ceased transmitting independently via the airwaves. The small broadcaster announced it would continue to distribute its programmes via streaming through its own website. Additionally, it retained a daily evening window of a couple of hours within the programming of the Monfalcone-based TeleAntenna NM, broadcast on channel 80 of digital terrestrial television. As of the present, VTC Video Tele Carnia remains active as a streaming content provider and cultural broadcaster, maintaining its focus on Carnic and Friulian culture. Its programming includes live streaming, local TV shows such as "TVDream Local TV", "La CJANIVE" with Celestino Vezzi, Friulian lessons with Dr. Quaglia, and cycling content about the climbs of Friuli narrated by the creator of "Pendenze Pericolose".
