Overview

Volstok Telefunken (now often shortened to Volstok) is a Ghent-based animation and motion design studio founded and led by Wouter Sel and Thijs De Cloedt. The two met while studying animation film at KASK in Ghent, in the same year as Jonas Geirnaert and Jelle De Beule. The studio first gained wide recognition for animating the cult series Kabouter Wesley, commissioned by Jonas Geirnaert and Woestijnvis, which aired as part of the VRT programme Man Bijt Hond in the 2009–2010 season. Beyond that, Volstok Telefunken produced the opening titles and visuals for Man Bijt Hond (seasons 2007–2008 through 2009–2010) and the segment De Monsters (2008–2009). Today, operating as Volstok, the studio creates branding, motion design, animation, and film for television, corporate films, and advertising. Its portfolio includes work for major brands such as Amazon, Delhaize, Audi, Telenet, Club Brugge, and Ultrafabrics Pantone, spanning concept development, 2D and 3D animation, CGI, motion graphics, character animation, visual effects, and video/photo production. The studio positions itself as an award-winning blend of creative wildness and technical know-how, helping brands stand out and connect emotionally in a fast-moving digital world.

History

Volstok Telefunken was founded by Wouter Sel and Thijs De Cloedt, who met while studying animation film at KASK in Ghent, in the same cohort as Jonas Geirnaert and Jelle De Beule. The studio initially made a name for itself through collaborations with VRT and Woestijnvis. In the 2007–2008 season, Volstok Telefunken created the opening titles for the popular human-interest programme Man Bijt Hond, and also produced visuals for the segment Het Gesproken Dagblad, continuing through the 2008–2009 and 2009–2010 seasons. In 2008–2009, the studio animated the segment De Monsters for the same programme. The studio's breakthrough came with Kabouter Wesley, an animated series created by Jonas Geirnaert, which Volstok Telefunken animated for the 2009–2010 season of Man Bijt Hond. The series became a cult phenomenon in Flanders. Over time, the company shortened its name to Volstok and expanded its focus to include branding, motion design, and film for a wide range of commercial clients. Its portfolio now features work for major brands such as Amazon, Delhaize, Audi, Telenet, Club Brugge, and Ultrafabrics Pantone, covering concept development, 2D and 3D animation, CGI, motion graphics, character animation, visual effects, and video/photo production. The studio continues to operate from Ghent, Belgium, and describes itself as an award-winning blend of creative wildness and technical know-how.
