Overview
ViTrox Corporation Berhad is a Malaysian technology company headquartered in Penang that designs and develops machine-vision systems, automated inspection equipment and related electronics manufacturing solutions. Its principal customers operate in semiconductor assembly, printed circuit board assembly, electronics manufacturing and communications-related production. Rather than being a consumer-electronics brand, ViTrox is a business-to-business industrial technology supplier whose equipment is used to inspect, verify and improve the quality of manufactured electronic products. The company was established in 2000 by Chu Jenn Weng and Steven Siaw Kok Tong, who were alumni of Universiti Sains Malaysia. Its first product was a two-dimensional Mark Lead Vision System. ViTrox initially operated from a small rented premises in Sungai Dua before moving to larger facilities as product development and manufacturing activities expanded. In 2001, it moved to the Krystal Point Office and acquired a semi-detached factory. The company subsequently developed a broader portfolio covering machine vision, automated optical inspection, automated x-ray inspection, board inspection, embedded electronics and manufacturing-intelligence software. ViTrox’s early product development focused on machine vision for electronic components and assemblies. It introduced a three-dimensional machine-vision system in 2004 and later expanded into five-sided inspection. In 2009, the company entered the automated optical inspection and automated x-ray inspection sectors through its Automated Board Inspection division. These capabilities allowed it to address more stages of electronics production, including inspection of solder joints, components, boards and other assembly characteristics. Its product families include Machine Vision Systems, Automated Board Inspection systems, Integrated Industrial Embedded Solutions and V-ONE, an Industry 4.0 manufacturing-intelligence platform. The business has also expanded geographically and institutionally. ViTrox established an overseas sales and support office in Suzhou, China, in 2006, followed later by operations or representative facilities in Shenzhen, the United States and Germany. It moved into the ViTrox Innovation Centre in Bayan Lepas and later developed ViTrox Campus 2.0 in Batu Kawan, Penang. The company has participated in the Penang Automation Cluster and has maintained relationships with universities and productivity-focused organisations. In addition to industrial technology, it established ViTrox Academy and ViTrox College, the latter offering diploma-level education after receiving accreditation from Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education, and launched ViTrox Agritech. ViTrox was listed on Bursa Malaysia’s ACE Market in 2005, when that market was known as the MESDAQ Market, and subsequently transferred its listing to the Main Market. The company remains publicly traded under ticker 0097, commonly presented as VITROX. Its corporate development has combined product innovation, manufacturing expansion, international support capability and investment in technical education. The company has also received recognition for employer practices, management, sustainability and entrepreneurship, including inclusion in the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia indexes in 2021 and recognition in Forbes Asia’s 200 Best Under A Billion in 2023. ViTrox’s current identity is therefore that of a Malaysian-origin, internationally oriented provider of inspection automation and industrial machine-vision technology.
