Overview
Vista Skateboard Art (also known as Vista Art or VISTA Lab) is a Brazilian creative laboratory and full-service communications and marketing studio based in São Paulo. It began in March 2004 as a bimonthly independent magazine dedicated to skateboarding and urban culture, and over the following two decades evolved into an agency that produces content, campaigns, events, activations and social media for brands targeting young urban audiences. Its self-description is a "creative laboratory that amplifies ideas," with roots in counterculture and a stated mission to disturb the standard. The company operates across Brazil and Latin America, and its client roster has included Samsung, Axe, Santander, Jeep, Nike, adidas, Vans, Mountain Dew, Gatorade, Red Bull and Jameson. It has worked with Red Bull since 2011 and maintains a long-running relationship with Vans, for which it has handled influencer management, festival programming and global projects such as Vans Duct Tape. Other notable work includes the adidas #LoveUnites LGBTQIA+ Pride campaign, the Red Bull Ladeira Abaixo event, the Netflix Bridgerton Funk Ball, and the Santander cycling communications platform. Vista also develops proprietary projects that blend art, technology and social purpose, such as Juntando Peças and the Moment Game, an online photo-realistic skate photography game created in 2010. The company positions itself as a "satellite retransmitter" of global urban culture, connecting brands with skateboarders, artists, musicians, designers, photographers and videographers.
History
Vista Skateboard Art began in March 2004 as a bimonthly magazine published by an independent publisher. The magazine was dedicated to skateboarding and the broader urban culture surrounding it — skateboarders, artists, musicians, designers, photographers and videographers — and was distributed free of charge with a print run of 20,000 copies, meaning it had no unsold inventory. This editorial project established the brand's identity as a voice of street culture rather than a conventional advertising vehicle. Over time, the magazine evolved into a communications and marketing operation. By the 2010s Vista was describing itself as a "creative laboratory" and a full-service studio offering content production, planning, events, campaign creation, executive production and social media. In 2010 the company launched the Moment Game, an online photo-realistic game in which players photograph real skateboarders performing in video footage — an early example of its proprietary, technology-driven projects. Vista's client work expanded across Brazil and Latin America. It has reported more than 100 clients served and more than 400 projects delivered in Latin America, with a client list including Samsung, Axe, Santander, Jeep, Nike, adidas, Vans, Mountain Dew, Gatorade, Red Bull and Jameson. Its partnership with Red Bull dates to 2011. With Vans, Vista has handled influencer and family management in Brazil, produced the Vans Living Room online music and art festival, and worked on the global Vans Duct Tape project celebrating surf culture. For adidas it led creation, production and communications for the #LoveUnites campaign during LGBTQIA+ Pride month, and it managed adidas's entertainment and influencer strategy in Brazil. Other projects include the Red Bull Ladeira Abaixo event, the Netflix Bridgerton Funk Ball, a launch video for Casai in Brazil, and Santander's cycling communications platform. Vista has also pursued proprietary social projects such as Juntando Peças, which combined art and technology for a charitable purpose, and the Santander ArTeMs "parade ATM" celebrating São Paulo's anniversary. Today Vista presents itself as a "living organism" and a "satellite retransmitter" of urban culture, working through lifestyle, street art, music and sport, and continuing to position itself as a provocateur within the communications industry.
